Great stop on to bigger adventures!

Coming from San Pedro Sula airport, Grissy's was a bit difficult to find. The trek takes roughly an hour and a half in light traffic and can seem like you're getting off the beaten path to get here but it's a good stopping spot for back packers and travelers. The staff, including the owner are all fantastic. The room was clean though a bit small and there were some issues with the wifi reaching our room but nothing that couldn't be handled. This is not a 4 or 5 star hotel. It's a small hotel in a small town in a secluded area with access to a nice beach. Breakfast was small, delicious and fast. There is a pool but we didn't get a chance to use it. If I go to Tela again, I'd stay at Grissy's.

A wonderful stay

First of all, I know I'm not easy to please. I must also say that I use a cane because of a temporary disability. We checked in and were given a second floor window at my request. The room wasn't the greatest. The balcony was tiny, the mini-fridge wasn't cold, and the air conditioner vents could not be adjusted. I thought this stay was going to be a bust. Then we talked to the manager. He put us on the first floor and had another bed brought in. The manger's ability to please us was what turned this stay around. The room was huge, the kitchenette had everything we needed, and the patio was steps to the pool. So, our stay improved immensely. The restaurant was fine. It was kind of strange that the free breakfast didn't begin until 8:30. It was a "tipico" breakfast with eggs, cheese, cream, beans, dry toast, coffee, and juice--very simple and plain. Dinner, however, was another matter. We ordered shrimp, conch, and fish epanizado for two, but it was plenty for three. It was a fantastic meal! The staff was excellent--very helpful and friendly. The rooms are large and clean. My only complaint is that the air conditioner, though plenty cold, was very loud because it was so old. My only other quibble was that Grissy's is not on the beach; it is one row of houses back, and there is no beach view. Plus, I had to drive the short distance to the beach because of my disability. Plus, there are no beach chairs or umbrellas, not even for rent. All in all however, we will go back.

Not what promised

Generally, you get what you pay for. But, in this case, we were very disappointed because they promised some things that were not granted. First, they promise Wifi. Yes, there was wifi. But, only in in the UN-AIR CONDITIONED lobby. Also, they promise premium bedding. But, the bed spread looked (and felt) like it was from 30 years ago. The bed could be squeezed with one hand where my finger and thumb can actually touch. The sheets were okay, but I would not consider them premium. Is it close to the beach, yes. But, they don't take the time to clean the beach or the short walk to the the water. It is full of trash. Is is difficult to get to? Yes, but there are plenty of signs. The pool was standard of others we saw in Honduras. Is it worth the $70 we paid per night? Not at all in comparison to similar hotels we stayed at on our trip. The only reason it didn't get one star is because the breakfast was prepared fresh and was not so bad. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. I would not recommend it to you either.

This place SUCKS, dirty, hot and misleading. You have to take a very dark dirt road to this place, some signs are available to lead you there but if you don't have a car, you will be stuck in there, taxis are rarely available to take you to the town area. Pool is nasty, can't see the bottom of it, rooms in the back are TERRIBLE, hotel promises Wi-Fi in all rooms, good luck with that, only in the lobby which is close to 100 degrees hot. A/C in the room given to us # 7 not working properly, they gave us a fan which was full of dust, pictures are enclosed for you guys to make up your mind. Premium bedding, maybe in the hotel's owners house, I was able to squeeze the top mattress with my weak left hand, sheets are from the 80's. Ceiling tiles were falling, TV from the 80's as well with really bad reception. If you do happen to get a suite, your view is going to be a dirt alleyway, not clean and an open field that has been turned into a dump with livestock roaming by. Pictures don't lie. We were told that our so called room, had ocean view, lie...Only view was a coconut palm tree and house in front of it. Restaurant service is very limited, don't expect much from it. We had a two 2 day reservation, we left right after breakfast after the first night, with all of these issues, I spoke with general manager/cook/front desk person/house and ground keeper because he was the only one there running the place, Mr. Michael James to ask for a full refund or partial one, I don't do YOGA but I'm flexible and before writing a bad review, I like to give an opportunity to make things right so now you know why I wrote review. RUN away from this place, please do yourself and family a chance to really enjoy TELA, is really a nice place to visit but skip this Grissy's Hotel dump. Water faucet in bathroom leaked, they shut off the cold water valve to keep it from leaking. the more I think about it, the more I regret not paying a little extra and finding a more friendly, clean, updated hotel. You will get what you pay for. Stray dogs roam the property for those with doggy phobias

Not worth the money

Staff was friendly. Suite was large but sparcely furnished. Telephone does not work, internet does not work. Free breakfast very poor. Food average. Cocktails were good. Needs upkeep, very run down. Busloads of people in the pool with clothes on. We were the only people wearing bathing suits. 1 block walk to the beach. Absolutely no shade available. Beach dirty with garbage
