Very expensive and very good except for a glaring fault.

Despite the cost for a family of four at La Ensenada for a one night stay being greater than the governmentally mandated monthly minimum wage, porter service / help with luggage is not offered, or at least has not been, in numerous times that we have spent at La Ensenada. Other than that the service is good.
Overpriced; Nice Place; Horrible Food;

This is a nice resort.
This is not anywhere near comparable to resorts in other countries. If you've stayed at a resort in Cancun or Punta Cana, then this is a huge step down. But it's as nice as it gets in Honduras. It has a decent sized pool that includes a kiddy area. The pool has a bar. You can get anything you want to drink. The beach is right there. It's not a picturesque beach, but the water is nice.
We stayed at the hotel one time. The rooms were decent, clean with towels and comfortable beds.
Where it really tanked was the food. It was awful. They had a pasta bar, and it was basically just pasta with some flavorless, watery sauce. It's buffet style. The fish was fried. Honduras has great food: baleadas, cuajada, chicharrones, their chicken fried, grilled or rotisserie is delicious. They could just hire some ladies from the neighborhood to prepare the meals, and it would be ten times better. The highlight was the afternoon snack where they served Honduran style mini hot dogs. Those were good.
And also it's overpriced for what it is. If you want to go there for the day, it's $63 for just a day trip for an adult. We spent one time with two rooms, and it came in at $500. That's outrageous.
Beautiful small resort with lovely, comfortable rooms.

The grounds and swimming pools are beautiful and the beach is nice. Everything worked well in our room and it was nicely furnished. We especially enjoyed the hot showers after days of bucket showers in the camp where we stayed previously. There is bottled water in the room and a large bottled water container in the lobby area to refill water bottles. The staff is helpful; many speak no English so brush up your polite Spanish. The buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner-no menus) had plenty of choices and the food was, overall, very good. Plenty of fruit was available every day. The registration office is removed from the hotel, pool and restaurant. The resort was filling up for the weekend. Our stay, Thursday-Saturday morning was really pleasant. One of the best things is that you can walk to town along the beach, maybe a 10-15 minute walk and easier than driving, I think. There is a great artist who lives in the town, Cruz Bermúdz, and we visited his gallery.
Good for retreat meetings

Went with a group of work colleagues for a biz. retreat. Very nice and helpful to advance in our topics. The conference rooms are a bit far from rooms. Will be good if they can install electrical outlets around the meeting rooms and also hotel rooms.
The beach can improve.
Wake up and act like you are part of the developed world.

Notwithstanding my title, I have now stayed at La Ensenada twice and as a resident of Honduras, surely will return. The price of this resort is that of the developed world, however, certain things are not up to international standards As it is located in the tropics, this country produces citrus fruit. One would think that this resort would have orange juice as part of their offering, however what they call orange juice is orange colored sugar water. I would liked to have tipped the staff; however the management obviously does not care enough for its employees to make change available to the guests who would like to leave tips.
