Not up to oar
Before I start I will say that my husband answered the Hampton inn survey and our problems have been addressed and resolved to our satisfaction in which we appreciate, from a very quick response. Our problem was the rooms were to have Covid 19 unbroken seal on the door/room. Very strict with sanitizing each room. Our seal was broken, as we were going to get settled I noticed our new carpet had a lot of ? Small droppings of what?. Who knows, all over. Could have been food crumbs since no eating allowed downstairs. We decide at this point $161.00 for one night was definitely not up to par so we went down to ask for another room. The guy went to talk to someone since they seem to be full and got excited when I asked if they could vacuum the room. The manager came out and talked to us, said he’d be right up to vacuum. He did quickly respond and as we pulled out the desk chair for him to vacuum the seat had stuff all over it. He looked shocked and explained their was no head maid service person on duty but he knows who cleaned the room and will take care of it. He then said he would take some $$ off the room...also gave us a coupon for food in which we had no clue if we would ever get to use. The amount he offered was a insult which made things worse. On the upside the beds seem to be excellent beds which did help a bit. To me they seem to be pillow top, but not sure. On a lighter side.. I like my root beer to enjoy a relaxing night..... the vending machine would not take our money, once agin back down to front desk to ask where is my root beer? Lol. He laughed and said ...oh those vending machines are just sitting there , they are empty. I asked if they were just for looks 🤗..he smiled and said no, they can’t get them thru the doors. They now have the drinks ( behind me about 2 feet and very crowded at the check in ) in which are more fancy drinks and not big selection. I told him there is no root beer..he said no. 😧 The pool though is a must see...check it out.
Musty Average, Small Sized Room Not Worth the $169 Charge
We popped into this hotel for an unplanned overnight stay. I would normally book our hotel stay online but because it was after midnight, I couldn’t book the hotel stay for the night that we actually needed the hotel. Price range for the weekend of July 4th online was $92-$101. As we always had a good experience with Hampton Inn, we decided this location was a good stopping point for us for the night. The front desk staff advised the best rate he could give us was $169 because it was the July 4th weekend. The price difference between what he was offering vs. what was online for the next night which was from July 4th to July 5th was $70+! I was too tired to argue with him and we went ahead and booked the room. We initially asked for a room with a king-sized bed and he advised this location doesn’t have king-sized beds. Then we asked for a room with 2 queen-sized beds and he advised those were all booked. Our next best option was a room with a queen-sized bed and a rollaway bed. Our room was definitely smaller than what we’re accustomed to seeing at other Hampton Inns. It was also musty and a bit outdated. The pillows and towels smelled musty and didn’t have the typical “clean”, bleach, just-washed smell I’m used to. I didn’t feel great sleeping here but was too tired to go on to another hotel. This stay was disappointing for us due to all the reasons above. We travel frequently and this is not the Hampton Inn higher standard that we’re accustomed to seeing. We would not return to this location if ever in the area, as a result.
When I checked in to the Hampton Inn Van Horn, Frank at the front desk was amazing! He was helpful in giving me options for dinner with local restaurants that had modified hours. He accommodated all my requests and even remembered me by name when I left my key in my room. He truly embodies the spirit of hospitality and the Hampton Inn Van Horn is lucky to have such a hospitable person working there.
We stayed there two nights account of snow storm. The room was nice and clean. The breakfast was good. The front end staff was great. They offer to go and get us dinner because of the snow storm. We were able to get out later in the day.
The Van Horn Hampton is a good value and is “pet-friendly.” Time and wear and tear are taking a toll as time goes on. The rooms are OK. But, they aren’t pristine like they were when it first opened and I’m not sure how they can reverse that aging without a major investment.
