Absolutely beautiful Dar and amazing hospitality

Avaliou em 26 de maio de 2022

What a beautiful and peaceful hotel. I felt so comfortable at Dar Ben Gacem Kahia, especially thanks to the wonderful staff who were always happy to help. This was my first time in Tunisia and the hospitality I experienced has made me want to return. Dar means ‘home’ and that is how it feels here, you can see the restoration of the old home with the traditional interior and I even had a tour of their other hotel and learnt about the history of both. I had my own private balcony in my room and the rooftop was so peaceful to watch the sunset from. I cannot thank the wonderful staff enough for making my stay so great, I highly recommend staying here as a solo female traveller, I felt completely safe. The hotel is within the medina and in walking distance to the train station that you can travel to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said on. Also the breakfast was amazing, maybe a little too much food! I enjoyed trying the traditional Tunisian food and there was different breakfast options each morning

Honeymoon

Literally amazing ❤️, I am proud to find such a place in tunisia with a high quality of service, the place is like a piece of diamond 💎 in the old Tunisian city, the people are very warm, I am actually spending my honeymoon there right now and I am overwhelmed about the place, a classy conference room, an amazing space on top of the roof, I love the food that they are offering, they have high standards in service. If you wanna visit Tunisia as an original experience forget about hotels , Dar Ben Gacem Kahia is your best place. Best location, cozy, Confortable. The service quality reminds me of my last visit to South Africa in Protea Hotel by Marriott Stellenbosch.

My experience at Dar Ben Gacem - Kahia

Avaliou em 12 de janeiro de 2020

I absolutely loved this place - it's in the middle of Tunis AL Asema (Capital), amazing interior - engraved ceilings - very nice tiles all over the place - we only had breakfast, but we were full till dinner so delicious and yummy (try sefsafa/ koskos with nuts, eggs were delicious) and I got to say that staff are the most friendly I have ever seen throughout my travels; they make you feel home! As an artist, i see a piece of art; every single corner has it's own artistic touch. I highly recommend this cozy motel as an accommodation for your trip to Tunisia.

Our selection of Tunisia was quite a surprise even for ourselves. We were looking for a destination where Indian passports get visa on arrival and the flights from KSA are not beyond 5 hrs. Initially search on What to do and where to stay was difficult. Not many sites are available to provide quality information on Tunisia. Nevertheless from one link to another I chanced upon Dar Ben Gacem they have two hotels , the older one was fully booked , so we ended up staying at Kahia. The hotel is a very traditional old house that has been renovated to a hotel. The first impression is remarkable beautiful tile work , large veranda and most importantly an amazing history. We stayed at Miled room , one room for the boys and the other for us. The rooms are connected with attached bathrooms. The staff is very hospitable Mohammad , Fouad and Rouhma are always available to help out with any request or query. Out of the 6 nights we took dinner at the property for 4 nights. All nights we had traditional food served for which Indians will need to develop taste , I would encourage Asians to carry Tobasco with them to Tunisia :). Fouad was very thoughtful and one day he had chicken prepared for my younger son. The property is very close and walking distance from the center of Medina it is ideally located for those who wish to get a feel of how locals live and enjoy life. You get to see different shades of life. Very secure and safe , several times we left our boys at the hotel while we went shopping in the medina. We spent 6 nights , however 4 -5 nights is sufficient for Tunisia. On the first day we spent at Medina Souk. Second day we took a Tour of Medina with Wajdhi which I highly recommend, very learned and thorough gentlemen. I love his attention to detail and his attitude to life, in the evening we chose to have dinner at La Spigola both the taxi fare and dinner was disappointing I felt ripped by both. Next day we took the ride to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said , I ensured we fix the taxi fare for the day upfront , we had a great time ,the Roman ruins are beautiful , however I would suggest you read before you head to the place there is not much to read at the place itself. Sidi Bou Said is beautiful has connection to Anadalusia half a day is good for that. Next day we took a taxi drive to Kairouan and El Jem both have significant history and I suggest read about it before visit them , it was a pity to see how museum at El Jem was so enthusiastically maintained. They have treasures but with no desire on the government to showcase them. Next day we took a tour to Bardo Museum again unenthusiastically managed, huge historical treasure but lack of management. The following afternoon we went to the biggest mall in Tunis to re energize our taste buds at Pizza Hut. The following evening we went to the nearby Book Binding store , a visit that I will highly recommend. The boys got a copy each which they will use for travel stories and scrap. The last day was spent shopping in medina followed by dinner at the property. One night we also dined at the international restaurant in Dar El Jeld it was a good experience , when in need of coffee I suggest try the AM coffee shop is good. People in general are nice and friendly, I did not come across a lot of tourist , in general you do not get a feeling of being ripped but make sure you negotiate the prices. A piece of note for the hotel staff please have soap dish fixed in the bathing area and as for toilet hand showers, if you can fix the ones with push button that will be great :) Overall many thanks for the great memories!!!
