Leamon House Review: Poor Accommodations

Avaliou em 11 de novembro de 2022

First, let me say I’ve been here before and stayed in the main building and loved it. We brought back friends this time and they put us in the Leamon House, rooms 801 and 803, and it was less than desirable. The musty smell greeted us when we entered. The rooms were dark and not updated. The bathroom sink was situated in a corner and there was no counter space at all, maybe 2” around the circumference of the sink bowl. Imagine trying to get ready and having to put your makeup/hair supplies in the sink, which was tiny. Going up and down the stairs was a challenge as the ceiling was low and the stair treads were short. We had to be careful and make sure we held on to the railing or risk falling. Our friends had the downstairs room (which also had a musty smell) and there was an open bathroom, no door on one side, that was situated in the center of the space. No privacy at all. The main building has beautiful rooms along with a spacious desk with a mirror, chair and plenty of counter space in order to put on your makeup and do your hair. To say I was embarrassed when our friends checked in was an understatement. The website has pictures of a few rooms but not these rooms for good reason. If you plan on staying, do not let them put you in the Leamon House!

First time Stay. Treated like a Long Treasured Friend!

Avaliou em 26 de outubro de 2022

We chose this location because it is centrally located in the heart of the Lancaster Amish Country and no more than 15-20 minutes from most major visitor and shopping sites. Our stay was from a Sunday to a Wednesday. They do have many Wedding Events here (4 in a row just prior to our stay). We found this time frame more convenient for our Fall Visit (avoiding the Wedding and Tourist "crushes"). We did experience some minor problems when we first arrived but they were quickly resolved. It was how the Staff dealt with our needs and issues that really impressed us. From the Front Desk to Maintenance to Housekeeping to Restaurant - we were well cared for. We don't Know all your names but you impressed us none the less We met "Henry" the resident cat at the Sales Office (bring a crisp leave as that is his toy of choice). Thanks to the Sales Staff for their kind and welcoming demeanor. We'll try to send some business your way; you are lovely people! The site is beautiful and quiet. The food and drink at their on-site restaurant - Amazing! Kudos to both of the Chefs! We ate here for our first lunch and every dinner. Kyle and Matt our bartenders are simply the best! Very attentive, efficient, well mannered, and knowledgeable in their craft. The wine selections and liquors that are available are excellent. We are from the North Shore of Long Island NY. The quality, presentation, and price (value for your money) rival anything we have encountered at home. This is undoubtedly the finest restaurant in the vicinity and you won't have to drive the roads at night to get there (no DWIs please). For your breakfast the nearby Gracie's is a must! This is the local favorite in that respect. In closing this review; I want you to take every positive comment in all the other reviews of this site and ADD THEM to our review as we wholeheartedly agree. Please take every negative comment and DISCOUNT THEM. While they are valid and a possible concern to consider they do not reflect the overall excellent nature of the Staff and Establishment. Management please share this review with your Staff. We have told many of them in person but please thank them for us also.

Wonderful and relaxing couple's getaway

Avaliou em 6 de julho de 2022

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at The Inn at Leola Village. We selected one of the "signature" suites which was very spacious and in excellent condition. It was a converted tobacco barn (don't worry it do not smell of tobacco) and had a nice rustic, antique feel to it. The staff were incredibly attentive with the lobby staff actually walking us to our suite and giving us a quick rundown of the room, its history and its features. We also had dinner at the Osteria Avanti located at the Inn, which made for a short walk from our room. The dinner was very good so we also recommend the restaurant. The Inn doesn't offer a "full breakfast" but there is a cafe next to the lobby area for coffee and bakery items. For a full breakfast, we recommend Gracie's on West Main which is just a minute down the road from the Inn. All in all, a nice couple's getaway location which was exactly what we were looking for.

Nice Stay

This is an historic property in a small town near Lancaster. Some of the buildings date from the 1860's. It's somewhat rustic, but nicely furnished. Parking is free and on site near your room. Our second floor (there's an elevator) Executive Parlor Suite included a bedroom, separate bathroom/dressing area, and nice parlor area. The rooms had some lovely antique furniture, and the price was reasonable given the size of the suite. There were small flat screen TV's in the bedroom and the parlor (larger one in the bedroom would be better). The suite also had a fridge and microwave. The inn seems to specialize in weddings and other functions, and there are lovely gardens and a large outbuilding for such functions. We had a few issues with the room----adjusting the a/c unit was hard to figure out, and overnight the room got down to 64 degrees. Also, there was no sink stopper. Overall, the room had a nice, historic feel, and things aren't always perfect in historic properties. We had dinner in the Italian restaurant, and it was fine. It's in a small and rather plain room with just a few tables, a little surprising given the Four Diamond reputation. The food was good, not great. But they have a great bartender here. Another very surprising thing was that the restaurant doesn't serve breakfast---there is just a small coffee shop with coffee, pastries, etc. The coffee shop was OK for us, but other people may want a better breakfast. Apparently there is a local place which serves a good breakfast within walking distance of the inn. Sometimes the front desk was not manned for short periods, and we got the impression that the inn may be short-staffed (not unusual these days). We enjoy staying in historic hotels and B & B's, and overall this inn did not disappoint.

Great landscaping. Spacious rooms. Decor has some character to it. Terrible spa.

This hotel gets a lot of business from weddings, so they really do not care about individual travelers opinions. The purchasing power is the the group of tourists, and NOT with occasional NewYorker spoiled by highest standards for everything, that are impossible to meet outside Big Apple. Groups prepay everything, landscaping is doing the selling for them. The management doesn't really train employees, who are mostly hard working people left without good directions. If the rooms maybe priced reasonable by NY standards, the little coffee shop makes all the money for them, by selling mediocre lukewarm coffee for $3, and sandwiches for very NY prices. They advertise "free breakfast" on the website, but then tell you that "breakfast is a la cart at the coffee shop, not free". Considering that there are not so many good eateries around the hotel - the guest will end up spending all the money saved on the room - buying overpriced coffee and snacks. The restaurant opens at 4pm only, so coffee shop was is really money making machine for them. The spa is another big disappointment. They do not have experienced staff. Manicurists are local girls who do not know what they are doing , the front desk matron is not much better. Passive agressive attitude doesn't go well in hospitality industry and is always the sure sign of a trouble. The strong pressure from front desk matron to pay upfront for everything when client checks in , including mandatory 20% tip before the services are even performed - is an indication that they are not customer oriented, since all wedding or girls getaways brings them steady crowd of undemanding customers. Simply put - they don't know good customer service and they do not care. Front desk managers are great, though. They are educated at least, and they are friendly. The rest - are just there to get the paycheck. We won't be back. It is not worth the trip from NY. If you are planning the wedding there - this is another story, perhaps you'll be satisfied with their landscaping.
