Beautiful wedding and stay at The Mudcastle

We had our wedding at The Mudcastle and stayed over both the night before and night of the wedding, along with our bridal party. The hosts Glenys and Kevin are extremely hospitable and welcoming. They really go the extra mile to ensure everyone is happy and everything goes smoothly. Great communication from the get go, gave us help with suggestions for our wedding planning and came through to save the day a few times at the last minute! The venue itself is beautifully crafted out of golden Nelson clay and structured with a strongly castle inspired theme. The inside has a lot of character with various ornaments and furniture collected over the years. The location is great if you want somewhere a little remote, particularly good for a wedding as you can be sure you wont be interrupted by unwanted uninvited guests. It's also set on a hill with great views of the forest around and lots of native birds flitting about in the outdoor areas. There are lots of different little areas for guests to explore and find charming unexpected details. We'd highly recommend The Mudcastle as a venue for any event or stay. The hosts make you feel at home and the rooms are unique with comfy beds and bedding. There is also plenty of parking availability on site. Thanks for a beautiful wedding and a great trip, we'll no doubt be back some day!

Unique accommodation, not for everyone

The marketing information has very nice photos, however these must have been taken some time ago, as the castle has aged and needs lots of maintenance. Our first impression when arriving was very disappointing with a construction site occurring at the front door, with hazards for children the site did not match the marketing information, therefore left our group very dismayed and not what we expected given the cost. We have provided the owners with a list of issues that we identified. For the rate that is being charged in April 2022, the venue / accommodation is NOT value, it is NOT 5 star and we don't recommend.

Amazing home away from home

From the moment we arrived our hosts Glenys and Kevin made us feel extremely welcome and so relaxed Our room was both stunning and comfortable with a private sitting room and full bathroom As part of a group the mud castle offered us the luxury of group sitting areas as well as cosy private areas Matt Dillow was allowed full run of the well appointed kitchen which allowed us all to participate in meal prep We thoroughly enjoyed both the mud castle and grounds and could not have wished for better hosts

Great place for our family reunion

We had a family reunion for around 40 people. Glenys and Kevin were great hosts and made the event a real celebration. The food and service were excellent and having a license meant we could run an open bar. We had 17 of staying at the Mudcastle for 2 days with ages between 7 and 76. It was such a great place for everyone to relax. Breakfasts were good too! Hope we can return one day.
