There is this funky smell all over the hallways and rooms, it's like wet stinky carpet. Towels are the thinnest we've ever seen, please get new thicker towels. The barn door keeps losing its track. We got stuck in the bathroom a few times. Toilet doesn't flush very well. Also, the trash can underneath the sink is always full when we get here. As well as dishes were dirty, with food stuck to the bottom of the pots. More importantly, the night desk lady needs new table manners. She keeps looking down on customers. As well as hiding inside all the time, and when she finally comes out, she is always upset with a mouthful of food. That's a front desk lady at a reputable hotel? The 2 stars of this review for daytime front desk lady (Destiny), since she was great.

This hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff is incredible, polite, knowledgeable of the area and friendly. I don't know why the other reviews were so terrible but the hotel is right on for the rates. Breakfast needs work but they have done the best they can with their resources. This is hotel has been open just over a year and its was nice not to have the wear on an older hotel. I can't wait for my next trip. Abby, Daniel, Jessica rock!!!
I don't recommend this property, at this time, unless they do better with their cleanliness/housekeeping.

We were here for 1 night. When we walked in our room we noticed the fingerprints all over the tv and cords hanging. When we tried to turn the tv on it said it was not connected to the hdmi cable. It looked like it had been taken off the wall and that the cable was missing or the cable box. We called the front desk and they would not change our room because we had already walked in to it. The front desk girl just laughed when we told her about the tv. She said there was no one to look at it. About 10:55pm a man who had just come on duty called and asked if we wanted him to look at the tv. At that time, we were trying to get to bed. One bed was missing a mattress cover, the sofa sleeper had dog hair all over one of the cushions and there was only a dirty pillow in an opened plastic bag in the closet for the sofa sleeper. No sheets. We had 2 children with us so we called down and asked for clean sheets for the sofa sleeper. We took a wet washcloth to the sofa to get the dog hair off. We cleaned the sticky kitchen floor. It has a small kitchen but is not stocked well. We had 6 knives, 2 forks and 0 spoons. It almost seemed like the room hadn't been cleaned from the night before. The manager never did talk to us but the desk girl said she was on a date and would refund our points after her date or the next day. Our points were refunded 3 days later which I appreciated. We weren't expecting a lot but we were expecting it to be clean. It appears to be in a very new area of West Des Moines. I hope they can figure out the cleaning and friendliness of the staff. Wishing your hotel all the best and I hope things improve and you will be successful.

Let me start by saying I am not a complainer and hate leaving bad reviews. That being said I do have to share some comments for future hotel goers and management to read. My family stayed here on a road trip going north and then going back home. Both visits required me talking to management. One time for pee stained sheets all the way to the mattress, meaning they were never changed to begin with, and dirty tissues in the room next to the bed. Second time for wet dirty towels in the shower and clumps of hair stuck all over the back shower wall, again meaning the shower wasn’t cleaned. We choose this hotel because of the great reviews a couple of weeks prior. So I don’t know what has happened to lack of cleanliness. The hotel building itself is great but the cleaning staff if failing the hotel. Fist mistake bad on the hotel, we decided to give a second chance since we already had it booked, bad on us for that one. If you are a clean freak I wouldn’t recommend and my family won’t stay here again.

We booked this hotel because it advertised special COVID-19 safety and cleaning measures, including a mask-wearing requirement. When we tried to check in, about 30 non-mask wearing people had a party n the general lobby space. They were so loud that it was impossible to understand the person who checked us in. The receptionist told us that the party had been going on for two hours already and that by company policy she was not allowed to enforce the mask-wearing rule. If this hotel allows a super-spreader event to take place on its premises, in a public area where other hotel guests need to pass through, it should not advertise itself as COVID-19 safe and should take down its mask signs. We travel a lot but will never stay in a Mainstay Suites/ Choice hotel again.
