Our cargo trailer was stolen!
We stayed at the Mainstay from July through December, while house hunting. Our cargo trailer was parked in the back lot the entire time with everything we own in it. On December 29th we were at the front desk around 6pm dealing with a billing issue at the same time our trailer was being stolen. This happened right after the staff learned we had found a house. When we found the trailer missing the front desk person did not call the police or manager but did call the daytime front desk worker. We called the police, the hotel did not make the surveillance video available to the police until the next afternoon. The management would not post our flyer offering a reward for the return of our stolen property and has made no effort to make this right. They just want this to go away, and they actually said that to my daughter. I am a disabled vet, mother of 2. All my pictures of my military service, my girls baby pictures and pictures of my parents who have passed on, were in that trailer. Everything my family could cobble together after a house fire. It is my strong belief and personal opinion that the staff of the Mainstay was involved in the theft. Please beware of this hotel. Also there were no exterior signs disclaiming responsibility for items in the parking lot, but no reimbursement for our loss has ever been offered.
We are a family of 6 and did not get the room we requested but staff were accommodating to bring a trundle bed. The room was gross. The toilet seat was peeling, there was hair on the shower, and the general appearance was dirty. Luckily we only had to stay a night. No one slept well. The beds are uncomfortable and the springs from the pullout and trundle were popping through the thin mattress. I am overall massively disappointed since the hotel has a 3 1/2 star rating. However the rating was on the choice hotel which makes me think they’ve boosted their own rating.
Great customer service, dirty rooms
We had booked through Priceline's "book one of these 3.5* hotels and receive a deal." When we got there it was 10 pm. The rooms kitchen had a sticky floor and there was pickle juice spilled all over the fridge. The bottom drawer was full of the pickle liquid. We told the front desk, and they were great. They showed us two other rooms that we could potentially move into, but those were ever dirtier. The airconditioning on one of the other rooms had mold in it. We shortened our stay and moved to another hotel. Again, the front desk staff was extremely helpful, did not give us a hard time and returned our money. When we were leaving the room in the morning I noticed there was a hole next to our air conditioner and I could see all the way outside!! The whole experience made me sad for the front desk staff because they really went above and beyond to accommodate us because of the poor work of housekeeping and maintenance.
Old and dirty
I had scheduled a 6-night stay and Williamsburg at the MainStay suites for work. When I arrived the host advised that he didn't want to put me in this room?! so of course I was not looking forward to my room and the clerk had advised that if I didn't like it they could switch me in the morning. Needless to say they were never able to move me. I had a suite with a full kitchen. The AC in the kitchen only blew hot-air and the one in the bedroom area didn't get real cool. The ceiling had many patches and one yellowish Brown Stain. The dacor reminded me of the 80s. The internet worked okay but the television service went off and on many times with no explanation from the front desk. I advised that the AC wasn't working and they said they have maintenance look at it tomorrow. Every floor about every 6 rooms has a ramp and 3 stairs. The ramp is very steep I don't advise you use the luggage rack. I wanted assistance immediately because of my AC so I pulled the filters out on the machine and to No Surprise they were completely full and dirty. I cleaned both of the filters put them back in and slowly but surely the AC began working good. The breakfast was nothing to talk about, the same thing everyday and the coffee machine was on the fritz as well. The bed was comfortable. I was missing sock upon packing up to leave and I raise the bed skirt to see if it had gotten right there and I found a woman's booty shorts and socks not mine and food under the bed. The place needs a remodel bad maybe a full overhaul. I even found a blood spatter on the outside of the bathroom door. I did leave my comments and review with management and I received a generic email back stating they were sorry and to please come try them again. I ended up canceling the Six-Day and going ahead and heading home
Two stars (and not one) because staff is friendly and professional enough
We had extremely rowdy neighbors next door. Screaming and yelling all night. Finally decided to call the front desk at 1:30am to complain, and discovered that the phone in the room was missing several buttons and unusable. So we used our cell phone to call the front desk. The night manager went up to talk to these occupants, and we could hear them yelling at him too. Finally they quieted down but then, less than 20 minutes later, the yelling and shouting started again and continued until about 3:30 am. One might argue that this is not the fault of the hotel, but we happen to believe otherwise. This hotel seems to attract this sort of people. This is obvious from the trash items that are present in the hallways and parking lot, and from the dogs that are not kept on a leash. Other than the sleepless night and broken telephone, there were only 3 pillows in total in a room with two double beds, and it took us 3 trips to the front desk to get a couple more pillows.. Also, there were coffee and cream packets in the kitchen but no coffee machine! We suspect that previous guests had stolen the pillows and the coffee machine, but even then, the hotel management should have replaced them before renting the room to us. All in all, the hotel seems to be badly managed and is attracting a certain type of clients that no one wants to stay with. Add this to the condition of the hotel (everything is old and outdated), and you get a hotel that you want to avoid at any cost in the future.
