Resort within Colonial Williamsburg
Greetings! I stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge on July 4 weekend of this pandemic year. The location is where you want to be when visiting Colonial Williamsburg: 10-20 minutes from the historic center, as well as period and contemporary restaurants. The hotel itself is a multi-building resort spread out over several acres. Easy parking. Because there is an on-site conference center, it is a popular venue for weddings and business conferences. The buildings are well maintained. I went to one of the restaurants and a carry out shop, both served quickly. The gift shop contains lots of local items and publications for those who want to learn about Colonial Williamsburg's history and remember it when they go home. The lobby itself is large and well appointed. There is an on-site spa which I didn't have a chance to use, and other bars and outlets which were closed during the pandemic. The room was nicely sized and nicely appointed: wood paneling, hi-speed internet (good enough to watch Austrian Grand Prix), 55" television, and wood/laminate floors. Bathroom was small but efficient. Good size refrigerator. A/C was perfect in 95 degree/humid weather. Staff was universally polite and competent. I had an issue and Craig at the Front Desk politely and efficiently took charge and had the problem addressed quickly. Bravo Craig! All in all, I will be back again to visit Colonial Williamsburg and stay at the Williamsburg Lodge.
We stayed here for 3 nights this weekend. It was a last minute change so we had to work with what was available and went by reviews. With that said, we chose this hotel. Darren in customer service was great by helping me select the room choice that fit us best. We had a premium with balcony room. The room was nicely decorated; nothing spectacular. The bathroom was quite small in comparison to so many other Marriott properties. The biggest drawback on the balcony was that it had an 8” “wooden bar” that was right at eyesight level. You either had to slump or stretch to see anything. Minor, but irritating. The other bothersome issue we had in the room was the extremely low bathroom sinks/counters. How has no one else mentioned this in their reviews?? The staff were all very pleasant. The location was great for colonial Williamsburg/Market Place. We travel so extensively and therefore we are always comparing properties and we always say, “would we stay here again?” Sorry Marriott, but this time we would say no. Although the location was great, the quality of the property and amenities offered did not warrant the price being charged. The pools were extremely small and very crowded. This is always a huge factor in our vacation property choices. Not that it is a bad property, just not our fit.
Great Stay at Williamsburg Lodge
The Lodge was conveniently located to Colonial Williamsburg and only a few blocks from a commercial area (which we didn't visit but saw from a distance). The room was clean, the employees were kind and helpful, and the beds were comfortable. We will be back!
Poor service at the Lodge. Will never stay there again. Missing shower curtain. No clean towels. Beds not made. Their reasoning - limited housekeeping due to virus. The only thing they did was empty trash cans and failed to do that one day. I found a used tissue in my bed and my daughter found a dead fly in her bed which leaves me to believe that the bedding was not changed before we arrived. Disgusting! And yet they are still charging full price per night. no one asked how our stay was when we checked out and I didn't wish to deal with them anymore so didn't say anything. Should have demanded a refund. I Love Colonial Williamsburg and have been going there every year for the past twenty years, but if I ever have to stay at the Lodge again, I am done. This is the second time we have had issues staying at the Lodge. Hasn't been right since Mariott took over.
