At first it seemed like a decent hotel. Check in was very easy. Once we parked the car however I could tell it wasn’t going to be a good stay. There was trash all over the grass. People coming in and out of the hotel rooms, assuming drugs and alcohol. Not normal behavior of a sober person. We come into the room and there’s only 3 pillows on the king bed. Had to ask front desk which took over 15 minutes to get an extra one. The toilet set wasn’t attached and moved all around, so we had to be careful using it. The room wasn’t very clean. Tv works, ac was cold- so that was a plus. There wasn’t a “do not disturb” sign. There was no breakfast due to covid. And the pool was emptied and they took out the sun bathing chairs due to covid. My point is it came to $91 for a night. Way over priced for the condition and lack of amenities. If you’re a family with children do not come here. If you’re a trucker or worker needed a nights sleep then it’s okay. And if you’re a couple like us who made last minute decisions to come to the beach - spend the extra money and get a better hotel! It’ll be worth it.
First our drive back from Miami to DE on 2/29, we had made reservations through a booking site to stay at another hotel a couple of blocks away which had a better appeal, it was also pet friendly and a comparable rate. On our way to the hotel of our choice, we entered the name on our GPS and proceeded driving north. By the time we arrived to Wilmington around 9pm, we were shocked to see the hotel was dark and boarded up. A policeman informed us it had closed 2 years ago due to hurricane damages. While we were contacting customer service for the booking agent somewhere in Asia, we also made a reservation at this hotel because it'd take pets and was around the corner. We came to the front desk and checked in with Jeremy. He billed us $70.99 for the room plus $10.40 for the tax. As we were getting into our car, we got a call from our hotel of choice to inform us they had heard from the booking agent and realized that our GPS had sent us to another hotel with a very similar name in error. We were told that they were waiting for us and had a room ready. We went back inside to see if Jeremy could VOID the transaction after we explained what had happened. To our surprise, he declined our request and if we left, the charge would still apply. Southern hospitality seemed like a myth to us. We decided to go to our hotel of choice and see if we can get our money back. Thec2 women at the front desk were very sympathetic and agreed not to run our credit card. They understood it wasn't our fault. GPS defaults sending people to the other one, though it's been closed for a long time. This is what Southern hospitality us all about. Against our wishes, we drove back to this hotel, went to our room and knew from the get go, dont even bother undress to go to sleep. I'd agree with some if the negative reviews here. The door didn't lock properly, it had a smell if sweat and dirt and we decided what's the worst thing that could happen? We didn't even want to shower for fear of catching some nasty toenail fungus. Jeremy, you could've at least tried to get our money back instead of flatly denying it.
I was impressed at how much different this place was since they remodeled. Me and my sister usually come every year for Marchtoberfest and last year they had alot going on but we always chose to stay here because we've always had a good experience; this year was no different. Staff is excellent at customer service. Jeremy and Carla are so kind and helpful, got us in our room quickly when we came in late and was so tired.. Rooms have hardwood floors, not the old nasty carpet we've experienced in the past, so that was a huge upgrade and plus for is. And the lobby has transformed to that of a modern hotel, not a budget motel. We were impressed. Grounds need a little upkeep but altogether we are never displeased and love staying here. Thanks Red Roof for another good vaca experience.
The floor was so dirty my wife took wet towels to it and they came up BLACK and hairy; bed was ancient and was spring type, no mattress and squeaky!! Breakfast was some cereal and over-ripe bananas!! I have slept outdoor parks cleaner than this... I am complaining to Red Roof corporate for an immediate refund, as staff simply stated that it is difficult to keep it clean when there ARE SO MANY GUESTS EVERY DAY... there were fewer than 15 guests that evening, one wing only.
