Complaint about their COVID-19 procedures
I booked my stay at this hotel for my UK trip that I have been planning on taking for April. I booked before COVID-19 pandemic was spread. I have been contacting this hotel since March every since the U.S. government started implementing travel restrictions on non essential travels up to when my flight got cancelled. The initial response from the hotel was that they would allow me to switch the date since I have a non-refundable booking. I told them that I have to get back to them since the date that I can go to UK is now uncertain. I asked for future credit voucher instead since the date was uncertain and airlines are very busy. I got no response. I got a bit nervous and I noticed that UK also mandated hotels to close which then automatically means the hotels would be closed during my stay in April. I expected the hotel to refund my stay since they were now cancelling my stay. (All of the rest of my stays at different hotels reached out to me). I have sent them two more emails on April/3/2020 and April/6/2020 to see if this was the case and I got no response. After patiently waiting since I know hotels get lot of emails from customers at this time, I sent them an email on May/19/2020. Now, the hotel stated that because the date that I was originally suppose to stay got cancelled, I cannot even switch my date and my booking fee is used up as "cancellation fee." I was trying to be understanding and patient because I know everyone is going through a hard time but I feel like this whole process of cancellations and getting refunds for my travel to UK has been so exhausting. At the end of the day, I have such a bad experience that I will honestly never go to The Christopher eton. I cannot even formally complain because this hotel is run independently. Next time, I am definitely going to stick with bigger chain hotels.
The hotel has a perfect, central location. We had a junior suite and it was great. Big bath and a lovely bed. The staff were excellent and we really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was good, with a choice of continental and hot dishes to order. Will definetly come back to this hotel.
Lovely hotel reasonably priced
My husband and I stayed for one night to celebrate my husband's birthday as he wanted to visit Windsor castle. We stayed in a superior double room (18) which was clean comfortable and spacious. Every staff member we met was professional and friendly. We were able to check in a few hours early as our room was ready and able to leave our car in the carpark for a few hours after we had checked out, although we appreciate both were probably as we stayed in low season. Getting into the carpark was somewhat tricky as the road is very narrow due to it initially only being wide enough to fit a horse and carriage but we managed fine in a VW golf. We had our dinner at the hotel restaurant and both the food and the service was great. My smoked haddock was particularly good and food was reasonably priced considering the area. The full English breakfast was also really good and huge! Overall we couldn't fault it and would definitely recommend.
Great place full of character
My friend and I chose this hotel for our girly week end as it caught our eyes by its quirky ness and also had private parking. We always avoid the big chain of hotels that lack character in favour of independent ones. This hotel is full of character - an old coach house with a lovely bar area and a restaurant. The decor is a reflection of its history and makes you feel welcome and comfortable straight away. Ok so yes that’s true that the place is in need of renovation as the heating and electric plugs are very dated - and this is exactly what is currently happening with new renovated rooms available within the next 2 weeks I believe. The alleyway to the parking is not the biggest so take your time but it was large enough for my friend to get her massive Range Rover in so that means most cars will fit! We had breakfast both morning and it was fine and filled us up enough to make the most of our day. We also had dinner in the evening and that was lovely and the portions were plentiful. Our room was really nice - it had a lovely and comfortable king size bed, as well as nice sitting area and a really large bathroom with a super big bath! I mustn’t forget to praise James in this review as he truly made our stay better by being so kind and helpful at all times. We will definitely be back!
No, not going back..
So, cold rooms (freezing bathrooms) , but with a lot of heaters you will get the room temp up a little bit, but not in the bathroom (no power plugs) Came back at 1200 in the evening and we had to bang on the windows to get attention from the guy who was sitting at the reception. We had to "force" ourselves in to the hotel, even after showing him the room key. Staff not very service minded or friendly.. The breakfast was an new experience, you could only pick one items on the menu and no mixing.. The waiter got half the order wrong and when we told him he insisted that this was what we ordered. We could only sit back and laugh at the surreal event that was taking place with all the guests. No, no, Not going back here!
