Mixed views at Minster Mill

Avaliou em 26 de março de 2023

We have just returned home from our stay at the Minster Mill and felt compelled to share some our views from our visit. Considering the price we paid for 2 nights bed and breakfast in a superior room we did not feel it was the best show for value for money. The positives for us were: *The fantastic reception team (Frances and we didn't catch the other ladies name) who could not have done more to help us. They were friendly, quick to solve issues and we could see they were really trying their best. *The quality of food at the breakfast was brilliant and it was delicious. *The spa staff were really friendly and the treatments we received at the Spa (massages) were absolutely wonderful. *The beds were comfortable (albeit two singles pushed together). *The receptionist took our feedback on board and very kindly discounted a small amount off our bill to pay. The negatives: *The service on our first evening in the bar was not very good. We were going to order food and more drinks but could not catch the eye of the waitress and she didn't come over to see if there was anything else we needed or if we wanted more drinks although the bar area was almost empty. *The breakfast service was incredibly slow on Saturday morning where we had to wait for 45 mins for our cooked breakfast when there were only 3 tables of people in the restaurant (definitely order something cold to have whilst your waiting just in case). We also felt the service wasn't particularly attentive on the first morning but it had improved on the second morning where we were asked if we wanted more food and drinks on a swift basis. *We asked the housekeeping staff for some items to replenish our room and this wasn't done (part of the tea and coffee offer). When we checked our room having been out for the afternoon items were missing and items were missing that we had specifically asked for. Thankfully, the wonderful reception team came to the rescue and brought the items we needed swiftly. *The spa was a bit of a let down and we are glad we got our time in there for free because we'd paid for treatments. The changing room is tiny and the only space to change is in front of all of the lockers so if someone needs to get in you have to stop changing and wait. There really is no room for more than one person to change in the space given. The pool was lovely but the actual water temperature felt quite cold so was not easy to stay in for long. *Eventhough the room was superior it didn't feel superior compared to other hotels we have stayed in. Overall, we did feel we had a good break away and we enjoyed the setting of Minster Mill but considering how much we paid, including the small compensation at check out, we do not feel it matched up to the price tag.

Get new restaurant manager…. Rest was perfect

Spa and hotel lovely… staff amazing Restaurant… the restaurant manager was very rude, making jokes about chosen meal and making my mother feel uncomfortable and embarrassed, ruining the atmosphere. Would hate to think of her speaking to others like that

Spa review

My daughter and I went for a spa afternoon with lunch and a treatment included. We had lunch first and the food was delicious. However the restaurant was really cold and my daughter had to keep her coat on, despite the fact we were sitting next to a radiator! Then we went to the Garden Spa which is really beautiful. The changing room was teeny tiny!! Only really enough room for 2 people and even then there wasn't much space. The pool area is lovely and very relaxing. We used the sauna and steam room but the steam room smelled horribly musty so we couldn't stay in there. Our treatments were great, really professional and so relaxing. We both had the Mini Hero which is a back, neck, shoulder massage with a facial and scalp massage. Our therapists, Lily and Jasmine, were brilliant. I'd definitely recommend a treatment there. Plus the Espa products were gorgeous. All in all the spa area slightly let down the whole experience so with a slight improvement it would be perfect.

Generally, very good

Hotel building and setting is lovely - very old, stunning building, extended in a tasteful way. It is expensive, but I think if you get to use the grounds more than we did (being March) it’s probably better value. Room was quite small but nicely made up and the facilities were good. Bar and restaurant were just ok - not much character to the bar and the restaurant is quite cold. Food was delicious, but not a lot of choices - especially when you have to choose between All Day menu and Dinner menu for the table - no splitting. We preferred starter and main from All Day, but dessert from Dinner… no mixing and matching! Dinner is expensive too. Spa is expensive - having to pay extra even without treatments. The facilitates are mostly good - sauna / steam room, but changing rooms are tiny (basically you stand outside the single shower in front of the lockers… not sure how you’d manage if there were two in there!!!). And the pool / jacuzzi was cold. Still the poolside was warm so laid back and read. Overall - we enjoyed - but like others have said, expensive and with a few areas to improve.
