Nicer than before.

We visited Hotel Irma a few years before and obviously had good enough memories to rebook another stay. We first stayed 10 days in a small village just south of Zihuatanejo with friends and then came back to Zihuatanejo when they departed back to Canada. Hence, we chose to spend the last three nights of our holiday at the Hotel Irma. It was a familiar place and turned out to be even better a stay than last time. We stayed in one of the upper rooms before and this time we were on the ground floor, just up from the pool area. The room opened up to a great view of the bay, very spectacular. The Irma is conveniently located, there is easy access to the malecon, which has been nicely refurbished, and which leads you along the bay into town. There are good choices for restaurants along the way, but there is not a real need for this as the hotel has a good restaurant on-site. The food is good, the prices were reasonable and of course the service was excellent. The convenience of this, coupled with the excellent views: really, what more could one ask for? The hotel is well maintained, our room was comfortable, bed, pillows, etc., it all contributed to a well rested experience. There are two pools, one is a nice infinity pool which overlooks the Bahia de Zihuatanejo. While relaxing on the edge, we were pleased to see rays, jumping out of the water, quite cool. A few spots that we did check out while in town were Cafe Caracol, a great place for specialty coffees and also to buy wares that are special to the area. We did find another special place for meals and that was a place called El Jardin de la Abuela. This is a family run restaurant that served excellent food at very reasonable prices. We had eaten here earlier when we had come into town while staying in the Barra. We had looked forward to another meal here but our plans were thwarted by the restaurant closing for the season. It was near the end of the season here, El Jardin was choosing to close early, too bad! So, as it was, choosing to stay at the Hotel Irma for our final three nights in Mexico was great. We had enjoyed our first 10 days at a great holiday rental which overlooked the bay, some highlights there were watching Humpbacks jumping out of the water while we were sitting around the pool. All in all, this part of Mexico is well worth visiting. We will be back and I think that the Irma will play a part.

Don't believe their cancellation policy!

Booked this hotel last fall for 3 weeks in January. Had to cancel due to Covid warnings. No problem, they said. Well within the time frames set out by them. But they couldn't credit our credit card which they had no problem billing in the first place. Had to do a wire transfer which wouldn't work for some unknown reason. Now we had been emailing back and forth for over 2 months. By then we had found another booking at a different hotel ( as the travel advisory had been lifted) so informed them we would be there at the end of March and would pick up the money at their hotel. "Wonderful" they said. Went there on the designated day and they gave us a cheque for their local bank. Waited for 45 minutes at the bank to be told the cheque was no good. Went back to the hotel and they apologized and gave us a new cheque which was definitely good . Went back to the bank and guess what? Another rubber cheque. Went back to the hotel and the manageress refused to talk to us. She's a scheming bag that couldn't care less about the hotel's clients. Haven't seen that kind of two-faced behavior in that kind of a people -oriented position ever. Luckily we had only paid for one night so we were only out about $150 but that really tainted our whole visit to Zihua.

Won't stay here again

First, a few positives about Hotel Irma. The location is perfect, the views are amazing, the pools are great, the bed was comfortable, and the food in the restaurant is delicious. Also, the room rates were reasonable, and the air conditioner in the room was quite and worked well. However, for us, the negatives outweigh the positives. First, the wi-fi is TERRIBLE. Don't count on being able to use it at all in your room. When they give you the internet password, they tell you that the couch in the lobby has the best connection. Even when you can connect, the Internet is very, very slow. Sitting in the sweet spot in reception, I see download speeds of 0.85 Mbps. In 2022, this is completely unacceptable. Second, the rooms do not have a refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, etc. They have a styrofoam ice chest, for which the hotel will sell you a 10 lb bag of ice. Third, the management is not trusting at all, and generally not helpful. You have to check out not just pool towels from reception, but also the TV and A/C remotes. They will NOT give you a late checkout. They did hold our bags in a special room after checkout time, but they did not give us a receipt for our bags or tag them in any way, making us worry that they could potentially give our bags to anyone who asked for them. Finally, although they have a "happy hour," they say it is for "cocktails only" (no beer or wine. That's fine, as long as you want one of their approved cocktails; margarita, pina colada, tequila sunrise, gin & tonic, vodka tonic. I asked for a rum & coke and was told that was not one of their happy hour cocktails. We got pina coladas instead, which I watched them make. It appears that they put less than two shots of rum in an entire pitcher of ice and pina colada mix. If all you are looking for is a clean hotel with a nice location, view, and pool, you'll probably like Hotel Irma. But if you need Internet access, you should stay elsewhere.

Clean & Friendly Hotel with terrific Pools & View. Down Side: I was quoted 2185 pesos for my room, upon check out I was informed that they had quoted me the wrong price and made me pay 300 more for Each Night I was there. Not my Error!! Totally and Completely Unacceptable, especially for a Female travelling alone. I felt scammed and left Very Angry. I won’t be back.

Just want we needed

The Irma is clean, the people friendly and this time of year the weekdays are very quiet. Just what we needed. Great location for finding restaurants to walk or take a taxi too. The week-ends get busy with locals coming in but then who would not come to the beach. We would highly recommend this little hotel to anyone.
