check if in house or annex
The rooms in the house seem very smart, the rooms in the annex type accommodation are fine, but not the same. Attractive country location about 10 mins drive from the town. Breakfast included local produce and it was all very good. No internet in the annex or the breakfast room
A Truly Amazing Gem In The Heart Of Italy!!!
We were thinking about staying for the night in San Marino, when I stumbled on this beautiful treasure just by chance. Located only about 20 minutes away through winding mountain roads - this is a 1000 year old castle that a wonderfully friendly couple had bought and renovated into a handful of guest rooms. You've got to get off the main road and head up a winding dirt road that isn't it great shape but gets you to the hotel. The rooms have lots of exposed rock and the floors are heated - the washrooms are nice and the dining room and fireplace are comfy and cozy! They did offer to make dinner but we decided to eat in town so they gave us great directions to some local places. The view from the room is astounding as it sits atop a hill overlooking miles and miles of farmland. You can even see the castle fortress of San Leo nearby. It was a very cold night and it would've been nice to have had a heater in the room but there were extra blankets. Breakfast was a pleasant affair, our hostess made fresh eggs for us and there were was lots of juice, hot tea and fresh bread and buns. We only stayed for one night - but I could've stayed there forever!!!!
Peaceful and beautiful
We stayed here two nights and enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the stunning views. Donatella was a wonderfully gracious hostess and excellent cook. We had dinner there both nights of our stay and enjoyed the fresh food most of which came from her own gardens. A four course meal was twenty five euros for each of us and the wine (also organic and local) was fifteen euros. Another benefit to eating there was we did not have to make the drive down the bumpy road into town! Our room was beautiful with with views of the lit castle at night. The stone shower was the best and also had a view! We used our full day to visit Urbino (75 minute drive) and San Leo--both of which were spectacular and not crowded
We stayed for 2 nights in this lovely place, a tastefully renovated building blending old grandeur & ultra modern comfort. It is nicely secluded in the countryside with plenty of wildlife walking about. Our room was in the main house, on the first floor - very clean, very quiet and comfortable (king size bed, heated floor) with stunning views over the valley and San Leo. Breakfast was served in a large dining room - fresh fruit salad, yogurts, cereals, delicious homemade Italian pastries, soft boiled eggs, bread, juices,coffee.. all good. We tried the 4 course dinner prepared with local organic ingredients (antipasti, primi-pasta, secondi-meat dish, and dessert) just once as it was quite a lot of food and we are not used to eating so much.. Organic wine is available for purchase if you feel like having a drink by the fire which is lovely... Donatella, the owner is attentive and friendly, without ever being invasive (she speaks excellent French - i didn't get to practice my italian!) No tv, no wifi - just peace. I wish we had stayed for a few more days. (for some travellers addicted to the internet no wifi may be an issue, we din't mind) on the practical side, the road to access the property is rugged - even more so if you arrive from the GPS recommendation side of the road!! Wrong! We struggled getting to the place and were concerned the hire car would not make it! The other road (ask Donatella) is shorter, and perfectly fine. All in all, a fabulous place.
Stunning Vista and Solitude
We stayed at this elegant newly restored palazzo in the country for 2 nights in October. It is beautifully appointed with views of San Leo that do not disappoint during the day and at night. This was our first visit to this region and it is different from our treks through Umbria and Tuscany, but none the less beautiful. If you are a hiker, you will love the chance to explore the rugged area. We visited San Marino and San Leo during the day and were happy that we decided to partake in dinner provided by Donatella both evenings. The food was expertly prepared with organic local ingredients, even the wine was organic! The road leading to the property is rugged as others have indicated and it is best to travel to it during the day, at least on your arrival. Donatella provided us with written directions to the property to supplement the GPS, as she indicated the GPS is often wrong (which it has been on occasion). We stayed in the San Leo room. All furnishings were well appointed and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and the surrounding countryside.
