Walking back in time
As you cross the threshold you could be entering this historic building in its heyday. One patio leads to another and each has its individual charm. Our room was directly off one of these, and offered all modern comforts without detracting from its historic roots. The brick floor was a trifle disconcerting if bare-footed, and the lighting was poor for reading. But overall the very Spanish feel of the room and the larger building more than compensated for any minor drawbacks.
A beautiful old palace in the middle of Sanlucár De Barramede. Quirky rooms and an excellent restaurant. (See my other review) highly recommended. The only. Problem is the WiFi which simply doesn’t work.
Beautiful hotel, but...
This is a beautiful building, with lovely patios dotted here and there. The bedrooms have very high ceilings, which are perfect for the high temperatures in this part of the world in summer. The complimentary toiletries in the huge bathroom were a bit stingy - a couple of sachets of bath gel/shampoo, nothing more. However our big complaint was the breakfast. There was a glass dish with some 5 mini-croissants which were absolutely dry and asj stale as last week's news. The bread was fine, but there was a shortage of small plates, in fact only one on a pile of dinner plates. We had to ask the young lad to bring some more. T The fruit was unattractive: my wife's kiwi was very hard, almost impossible to cut in two and impossible to eat with a teaspoon, while my peach (the best looking one of three) was off. The other fruit on offer was onej GoldenDelicious apple and one pear. UOne of our friends wanted muesli, but no bowls were on the stand, she had to ask the lad, who brought only one, so that he had to go back again to fetch more bowls when someone else wanted muesli in view of the fact that there was practically nothing else on offer. NAdmittedly, there were some slices of cheese, but five small pieces between four adults was totally insuficient, as was the supply of york and Spanish hams. We noticed that these were replenished only as we were leaving the breakfast room... My wife cannot take cows milk and there was no soya milk available. OK, so the hotel breakfast costs only 6 euros each, but we would have got a far better and more varied breakfast at a cheaper price with fresh produce by going into the town. Stay here for the beautiful building (although there is another hotel of similar characteristics about100 metres away with better service, at a higher price) but take your breakfast downtown.
Historic, cool, beautiful and well located
Fabulous historic room, great bathroom, large tv and air con. Very friendly.. this is a special palace and in my view the best place to stay in Sanlucar de Barrameda. The breakfast is very good and there are patios, places to sit and enjoy the peace...
Same problems as before
We love Sanlucar and this is our third visit. The hotel has some strong points- the suite was lovely, the communal rooms bursting with character but the same two things let down the place as they did three years ago when we stayed. 1.) the unfriendly and surly staff and 2.) the breakfast. The receptionist and waiter at breakfast were barely able to muster a "hello" or "thank you" during our stay. We tried to be cheerful and friendly (we are on holiday after all) but they always appeared utterly disinterested at best, and at worst, rude. The breakfast on the first day was abysmal. The tables were dirty with full ashtrays, the food had all but run out at 9.30am with only stale white bread and butter left. There appeared to be a member of staff (or friend of) behind the counter eating sandwich after sandwich of the guest food whilst guests went without. This happened on both days we stayed. We checked out a day early and were disappointed with the hotel. It charges too much for the service it provided.
