Just one week after holiday in Aberdeen stayed in the Douglas Apartments. I have to say they are the place to stay. Lovely bedrooms bathrooms sitting room and everything you need kitchen. They are so well kept spotless and that’s a fact. Lovely decor. Excellent and friendly staff. Congratulations to all at the Douglas hotel
Steer clear: a stay here is NOT to be recommended....

This was a return visit to a hotel that we last stayed in 50 years ago and enjoyed at all those years ago. However, this visit just leaves us with memories that we want to forget, and we cannot recommend this hotel to anyone at the moment.
We stayed in one of the hotels suites on the second floor.
The furniture and fittings and decoration seems to be just as we had in our stay in the 1970's and little or no investment seems to have taken place over the years. The reception staff (not the reservations manager) seem to be trying their best but more senior staff just don't know what customer service is nor wish to positively engage with their clients when issues arise. Sad.
I chose room-only rate as I had noted when booking that only a 'delivered to your door' continental breakfast was offered. Aberdeen is a lovely city so I anticipated that we could find other local breakfast places where we could get a nice hot breakfast and that proved to be the case. And, on looking out onto the corridor after our first night's stay, and noting the myriad of small brown paper bags on the floor at room doors, with a few unappetising cold, pre-packed items for breakfast within, I was so glad that I had not wasted money on that stuff.
Additionally, it is noteworthy, to say that along with the little brown bags of breakfast items that lay at various room doorways, there were also many more much larger brown bags, pizza boxes, and other detritus from food that had been consumed within the bedrooms.
It was later on that I learned just why there was so much food-related any other rubbish scattered along the hotel corridors. I was advised that the hotel takes in guests who are 'Self-isolating' for Covid-19 purposes. And I witnessed specific food delivery from an external internet-based food delivery agent to a room directly opposite my door on the same corridor where we were staying. And that food being delivered by the agent because his instruction was that the recipient was self-isolating and therefore could not leave his room. However, it did seem acceptable to the hotel and the Douglas management that the detritus from that food delivery was then put outside the hotel door to allow any infection risk to lie in the hotel corridor for an indeterminate period of time and for anyone to pass close to it, and potentially become infected with Covid. Dreadful. The lack of secure and safe process in this hotel is woeful, and when we challenged the reservations manager about this whole sorry affair, she was dismissive in the extreme and not willing to listen to her guests' serious concerns about how this hotel is managing Covid risk. (Or, in reality, not managing it.)
We were glad to leave this hotel after a further worrying night and will never return. If I could have given it zero stars, just for the crassness of response by the hotel management, for their lack of safe and secure risk management of Covid-19, for their lack of good process where heightened risk is encountered, and for their TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT to new guests, such as my wife and I, for not advising that they willingly were taking self-isolating guest's, and additionally housing them scattered throughout the hotel and in all likelihood adjacent to any room where a new guest may be placed. For us not to be given the offer to amend our booking (given our personal health circumstances in light of Covid that the hotel would not be aware of, nor seemingly interested in) when checking in just smacks of a total DON'T CARE ATTITUDE, the hotel just wants your money.
Very sad in these difficult times, and you can be sure that we will not be recommending the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel to anyone.

This has to be the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, twice my company have put me here, the rooms are old and smelly, with poor furniture, the seagulls squawk all night you can still hear them with the poor double glazed window shut. The food is overpriced and of poor quality! Unless your absolutely desperate, don’t ever choose this hotel people!
Cleanliness not a priority

Stayed 24th June for business.
If my company hadn't pre paid I would have left.
Check in gave name which it was booked under to be told "don't have any reservation under that name"
Said name again "oh yes we have under that name" ( it was the same name I gave twice)
Entered room 222 to be met with a charming stain on carpet when entering.
All downhill form then.
Furniture very dusty, coins lying on floor in bedroom, ear bud in bathroom bin, empty soap wrapper, hair of a certain kind on toilet lid.
Rust around shower and radiator.
Bedroom window didn't close properly so room was freezing all night.
I understand the room was budget but in this day and age cleanliness cost nothing.
If I had paid myself I would have asked for a full refund.
Next day check out no interaction at all.
The worst hotel for business or pleasure I have stayed in.
100% would not recommend.
Horrible experience. Total rip off.

Visited the Ivy Lodge at the Douglas Hotel. Ordered a jug of Sangria…whoever made it has never visited Spain; it was bitter tasting & horrible. The pizza we ordered was the worst pizza ever for an extortionate £10. The toppings were practically non- existent. Was supposed to be chilli, mushroom & peppers. There was zero chilli, it had one small button mushroom sliced over the entire pizza & the tiny amount of peppers were a joke. I don’t know how they get away with ripping off the public this way, but you have been warned!
