Petty Charges Leave Bad Taste

Reviewed 15 october, 2022

This castle hotel should have earned a 5 star review....especially as the staff were exceptional in every way. The poor review is directly held accountable to some unfortunate policies in place. Namely, when you pay for the half board meal plan, no drinks are included at all....not even water. The hotel also doesn't make it reasonably obvious to the guest what is complimentary and what is chargeable. The mini bar should have a very clear and transparent menu right at the bar itself...not some obscure code. When charging your guests a hefty price and establishing yourself as an upscale hotel, these poor decisions don't bode well for a reputation and cheapen the experience. Don't 'nickle and dime' your customers given your hefty rates, and make transparent all of your costs so that its reasonably obvious.

A Magical Experience in a Beautiful Historic Building.

The staff were friendly and offered a high level of service. Alarcon was a pretty town. The hotel was unique and full of charm, having been renovated to the highest standard and with great sympathy The food in the restaurant was of the highest quality.

Outstanding experience! Well worth it.

Staying at Parador de Alarcon was better than our greatest hopes! Impressive history paired with modern comfort and exceptional service, Parador de Alarcon was outstanding. The village of Alarcon was similarly charming, beautiful, peaceful and offered additional dining options as well as historical buildings. We also enjoyed a lovely hiking trail around the property that took us to the edge of the surrounding river, which serves as a natural moat for the fortress. Highly recommend!

Unique hotel setting, but there’s nothing to do in the town

Reviewed 16 may, 2022

Not many hotels are in castles like this Parador. The rooms are basic and smaller than other Paradors’ rooms, but a good job was done fitting the rooms into the existing castle footprint. Because of the limited size, this Parador doesn’t have some amenities offered by others. Breakfast was accomplished in two shifts to minimize numbers of people in the restaurant. Also, breakfast wasn’t the typical buffet, rather you are brought a small assortment of cheese, ham, breads, fruit, and yogurt. Eggs can be requested. Parking is free at a parking lot in front of the hotel. There is a guy you tells you where to park in the public lot, but he is not employed by the Parador or the town. At least he wasn’t begging, per se, and I didn’t mind giving him a euro. The town itself has little to offer. With only 14 rooms, I have no idea how the hotel can afford to stay open.

The ideal Parador

Reviewed 11 november, 2021

For me, the Parador at Alarcón is the ideal Parador - in a beautifully restored historic castle, blending the ancient and modern superbly, located in a pretty and well-kept village, next to the river with kilometroes of lovely walks. Ticks every box. The food was excellent and our beautiful room very comfortable. Couldn't ask for more.
