Just OK

Neat rooms and nice concierge. Cool and calm ambience in and around the hotel. Free breakfast, which is pretty good, on the room. There some flies around though, don't know why. Also, if you are used to cities, the hotel is not near any. Public transportation is almost nonexistent, yet they make you pay a city tax for transportation you'll not use. It's a good place for meditation and relaxation without the noise of city life.

Very nice

This hotel has been is renovated and feels like a boutique hotel in a big city. Great modern design, decor and well-appointed rooms. At 3 stars, it exceeded expectations and was better than hotels with a 4-star rating. The hotel is situated within a Catholic monastery and is owned by nuns as a way to generate income. The hotel is run by secular management and includes conference facilities. My room was spacious, comfortable and had a private balcony. The TV was huge and modern, although no English channels were available. The bed had USB outlets at the nightstand, which was a life savor since I lost my electrical outlet power adaptor. Breakfast was phenomenal. A very extensive buffet with something for everyone’s food preferences. Dinner was also a buffet. The food quality at dinner wasn’t as good as breakfast, in my opinion. But the wine selection was sufficient and the prices cheap. If I had one suggestion it would be to have a properly translated welcome letter in English and French. I recognize 90% of guests are probably German-speaking but it would be helpful if all of the information was available because not every staff member can speak English. The only real complaints I have are the horrendous parking situation and the lack of a gym. In terms of the gym, the hotel is hosting business conferences. It would be nice if there was a small gym with treadmills and other basic fitness equipment. Thankfully, there is a temporary parking section at the entrance to the hotel. Otherwise, it is a little bit of a walk with luggage. The parking is an issue for anyone with bags or during bad weather. Besides those two complaints, anything else is a problem with the 3-star and 4-star hotels in Germany and not this hotel. It’s a problem I’ve only encountered in Germany: No coffeemaker or tea pot in room. You can’t get coffee until breakfast at 7 a.m. Only 1 or 2 pillows, compared to the 4 pillows that most hotels outside Germany feature. No lotion or other toiletries in bathroom of room. Bar soap replaced with liquid soap, which is cheaper but not as sanitary because dispensers can spread diseases. If I was in the Constance area, I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. I liked the religious connection and thought it was great in terms of value for money. With a few changes, it would be a superb 4-star hotel. Right now, they have a 4-star product, but more of a guesthouse/B&B standard.

A place to relax and rejuvenate

Reviewed 20 july, 2018

We had a lovely week here for a small family reunion. The weather was beautiful and we were able to have all meals on the quaint garden terrace. The rooms are beautiful and we slept like a rock on the wonderful mattress. Staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The food is fresh and local and has something for every taste: only request I would have: please mark each food/bowl with respective ingredients to allow guests with food allergies to make the right choice. A real plus is the location. We only used the car once during the week for a visit with friends in Switzerland. The guest-card allows free rides on the local train (5 minutes by foot). The hotel has a private beach within less than 10 minutes walking distance. Lots of different options for day trips. We will come back.

Came for work conference, but will gladly return for pleasure

We were here for a week, taking train from Zurich, with switch to local train in Constance. This quaint place is about 10 minutes by train to Constance so quite easy to go see many sights there and from there as a starting point. The hotel is simply lovely, at the top of the hill from the train. This hotel is run by Nuns, and adjacent is a monastery and church and certainly worthy of taking a tour with one of the nuns. The hotel has a cafe, a restaurant, which we had breakfast and dinner every day and every meals were great. The hotel is very clean and well cared for. The rooms are well appointed, the beds were very comfortable, and the place is very quiet. The sliders/full length windows open so there is always clean, and fresh air. The staff were all lovely, welcoming, and they run a really lovely gem of a hotel. Took the train to Constance several days/evenings for various excursions including taking a boat trip around the lake and stoping at various points of interest and historical sights. There are a couple museums in Constance worthy of a visit as well. If we are in this area of Germany again, we would certainly just come to this hotel for holiday.

Need a reason to visit

This is an average hotel. It is in the country but still close enough to the main road to Constance that you always hear cars. This small town is built around a monestary and this hotel is, in fact, run partly by nuns. The region around Lake Constance is littered with monasteries and this particular one happens to run a hotel. It seems like a fine place for weddings and family events but though there is a bus stop you'll need a car to get anywhere. There are woods nearby and if the weather is good, you can hike light trails. The hotel itself is clean, modern and well maintained. It is, though, a 20 min drive to Constance. A bus and train are nearby and run once per hour or so. I came for a family event but won't come back. Not because it's not pleasant, just there is no compelling reason to be in this area at all. I seem to be in the minority however because it was fully booked in late September. Ask for a quiet room facing away from the street. Parking is 100m away from the hotel on a hill so drop your bags first then park.
