More about the hotel
Nice and near
Nice and near Hotel to the centrum of Monte Carlo. Clear nothing to special but for some days is perfect. If you are Italian I advise you to come there. Good personal and friendly. The cost is convenient.
Good old fashioned hotel
Good location but old fashioned tired hotel. Nice staff but unhelpful when we asked for a glass of ice. We were told to go to the supermarket and buy a bag! Monaco is not cheap at any time and this hotel was at the cheaper end of the scale but you still expect service. We did not have breakfast there.
Historic Grand Prix Visit
Second floor room was good. Views not special but the room was OK, clean and tidy, nice bathroom. For the price it was pretty good. I have no complaints. Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast (we stayed as B&B) was typical European of bread and cakes, fruit, tea and coffee, yogurt etc. Was OK again no problems. You may get the impression this was an OK hotel but not special. Well you get what you pay for especially around this area. For us this was OK and fulfilled all our needs. There are loads of restaurants around, access to Monaco itself is excellent, Casino Square being a 5 minute walk from the hotel and the harbour 15 minutes.
Very nice and economical
The hotel is a short walk from the Grimaldi Convention Center. It is run by a very courteous and helpful family. They go out of their way to please. Our room was clean, service was great. Certainly not a 5 star property, but the place is comfortable and close to everything in Monaco. If you are looking for an "upscale" property. this is not the place, but if you are looking for a comfortable and affordable stay in across the street from Monaco. You will be happy here. Don't expect a doorman with white gloves but you will find a genuinely kind and helpful staff.
Small, older property a step over the Monaco border.
Strictly speaking, this hotel is in France. However, it's a good spot to stay when you're in Monaco. The border runs down the centre of the street and so just two steps from the door, you're in the Principality. It's very well located for all Monaco has to offer and you will be able to walk to everything the microstate as to offer, although being in the upper north west side of the enclave, you will find some of a hike to get to the the seafront and some of the more famous landmarks. The hotel is old and is looking it's age. There are 7-8 rooms on each floor, all of which are very basic, lacking comforts and frills, but certainly clean enough. The beds/mattresses have seen better days and are certainly sagging, but nonetheless comfortable enough. My room had a double bed and the linens were clean, but the configuration of the room wasn't exactly ideal. The window shutter refused to open, so the room was in darkness whenever I was inside. Even had it opened, it looked out onto a grubby service courtyard with minimal light. some rooms do overlook the city & sea. There is a large, old wardrobe, a basic desk and desk chair, but nothing else in the rooms, other than a small fridge, which is really the only thing that raises it above a 2* experience. The carpet was a bit worn for sure. There was aircon/heating, but it didn't seem all that easy to get a low temperature and indeed since your key card is needed to power the room, it's impossible to cool the room while you're out and about (or charge your devices). The bathroom had a small shower stall, toilet, bidet, basin, all of which seemed quite new and certainly functioned well with good hot water pressure, but the only amenity provided is a poor quality liquid soap. No shampoo or bar soap. Although I booked a double room, there was just one towel each day, which was clean. There is a TV but I never switched it on and WIFI is free, but requires annoying codes you get from the front desk and the signal strength was woeful. Sometimes I just gave up even trying to use it the speed was so ludicrously slow. There is a computer in the lobby for guests to use. The lobby has comfortable seating, but it's a bit cramped and the bar/cafe area is equally small. Breakfast is available for E10 but it really isn't worth it. Nothing hot is offered, just cereals, cheese, yoghurt, pastries, some fairly old looking fruit. A small supermarket is 100m from the hotel, where you can buy all these things for a fraction of the price. Staff are friendly and there are a lot of maps & brochures in the lobby to help you with your trip. You can walk to/from the railway station relatively easily. It's about 10-15 minutes, but in either direction, it requires negotiating some gentle hills. I was accidentally here the week of the Monte Carlo Tennis Masters, so bearing this in mind, I got a very reasonable rate indeed, but even for what I paid, this is a basic, no frills hotel that is questionably 3*. Nice enough and comfortable enough, but don't expect anything too impressive.
