The reception desk, the room and the restaurant are located in different buildings. You need to go outside. That can be a problem when the weather is bad. For the rest everything was great here: very friendly welcome, very helpoful staff, not so spacious room but comfortable, good bed, very nice bathroom, very tasty and extensive breakfast and ... all of this at a very sharp price.
Great location for walking in the Harz Mountains
Opinión escrita el 9 de Julio de 2018
Very nice hotel in the heart of the Harz Mountains. Exceptionally friendly staff in the hotel and nearby restaurant. Wonderful views towards The Brocken. This establishment has a number of chalets and a main hotel block. We were in the main block.
Our room was very well equipped, clean and obviously well maintained. We had a view facing the forest and the mountains beyond, which was a bonus (Some hotel room face the car park). Facilities include a gym and saunas. The restaurant is a very short stroll away and this is where a fabulous breakfast is available. The evening menu is great with plenty of choice and we thought it to be very good value. The BIG walk her is to The Broken and back. It's well signposted and we would say manageable for most people. They advise to allow 3 hours each way but we slightly beat that at about 2.5 hours at a fairly leisurely pace. We'd definitely stay here again if we ever visit the region again.
Great surroundings and holiday-houses

If you are to mountain biking or hiking this a great place to stay. The houses are great, good quality and spacious. The breakfast in the nearby restaurant is typical German, which means great variety and solid quality.
Hiking holiday in nature
Opinión escrita el 14 de Agosto de 2015
We stayed here for 3 nights (Wed - Sat) in a room within the main building. They also have holiday houses which looked lovely for families to stay in, with small gardens and outdoor areas to BBQ or sit outside and take in the view, which is pretty spectacular. The room within the hotel (we had 102) was clean, well designed in theme with a nature hotel with lots of timber furniture and a nice backdrop of the forest over the bed. The bathroom was modern and an excellent shower. The hotel offers mountain bikes for hire from around 30 - 50 euro a day which we thought was a little expensive, so we decided to stick to hiking trails. The hotel offers a few maps for around 4 euro each and any other needs can be bought from the tourist centre / shop across the road. Staff were helpful and friendly. They had quite a good although small gym downstairs, but clean and with all equipment needed, along with a sauna open from 3pm onwards. They also sell beer and wine for reasonable prices, given that there is only a choice of two restaurants nearby, one being Halali which is where breakfast is served each morning. There is outdoor seating also which was lovely given the beautiful summer weather we had, however they were slightly short staffed in the mornings and I felt quite sorry for the single lady who tried her best to get coffee and cutlery to all on time. Was really a lovely hotel and would definitely recommend and hope to go here again one day.
3 1/2 star self catering place for families

The hotel offers regular rooms and “holiday-houses” for up to six people, although we would recommend four max. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom with shower upstairs and one bathroom plus a separate shower next to the sauna downstairs. Plus a fully equipped kitchen and a dining area downstairs. Attached outside is a huge storage area for ski, bikes, sleights, you name it. We shared one of the houses with a couple and while one can keep out of each other's way at bath-time, having the 2nd toilet downstairs is not convenient. Probably best for a family of four!
The furnishing is complete, think wooden cabin look, and you will have enough space to unpack. The sauna is a great touch, but a bit on the small side, i.e. you can not lie down. A fire place (which free wood provided) adds a very cosy touch. The hotel borders a national park which is great for hiking and a main road, especially popular with bikers. There is a restaurant attached which serves standard breakfast item buffet style (but you can also order egg dishes to your liking) and a la carte meals for lunch/dinner. Other restaurants are at least 5km (and more) away.
Guests may self-cater and thus service was mixed at best, Reception rather cool, restaurant service rather slow and you have to take care of your “house” during the stay yourself (and pay for extra towels).
Personally we would rate it 3 ½ stars and if you want to spend an active holiday with your family in that area this is not a bad base to be.
