America's Best is the Worst!

I am trying to find something positive, but it's really hard. Avoid this motel at all costs. It is run down and dirty. Other reviews talked about feeling unsafe. We did not, but were so shocked by the lack of care around the property. The main lobby is small and smells like smoke. The people who work there are friendly and helpful, but beyond that, the stay was terrible. Our room was a "pet friendly" room over by a patch of grass for dogs to do their business. But clearly, no one cleans it, and there was dog poop and trash all over, which attracted flies. When we opened the door to our room, flies got in and drove us nuts all night. The room was tired and needed some new paint and a good cleaning. It's hard to keep old things clean, especially in the bathroom. It needed a new toilet seat and updated fixtures. Not the fault of the property, but two men sat outside our door and talked all night. I barely got any sleep. The air conditioner was good and the bed fairly comfortable, but they couldn't make up for the rest of the property being a train wreck. The pool was drained and looked like a haven for trash. In the morning, there was a "grab-and-go" breakfast, but all it had was coffee. We went to a nearby Starbucks instead. For an overnight in Amarillo, you can do so much better!
There Are Better in Amarillo ....MUCH Better!!

We stayed on Sunday July 25, 2021 to Monday July 26th.
I had stayed at an ABVI previously throughout my travels.
Last time was in Ruidoso, NM and I promised myself would NEVER stay at one again.
I should have stuck to that creed, regardless!
But I saw/read the reviews on here and thought this one might be different.
No such luck.
All I can say is that those reviews must have been written by some of the “long term” tenants who stay there in lieu of some money off their bill.
Yes, it’s one of “those” kind of hotels, the kind where people live there and act like they own the property and can do whatever they want no matter what the time is.
People were actually working on their cars in the parking lot.
You know it’s going to be bad when Motel 6 sold the property to ABVI because for M6 to sell one of their properties it has to be a really BAD property.
I was not impressed at all.
Even the hotels photos on Tripadvisor look A LOT better than what you’ll get.
I went off what I had read in the other reviews on here and for once I was let down …VERY let down.
Rooms are VERY small.
We had a double which usually means 2 queen or at least 2 full size beds.
These had 2 double beds. Double beds are smaller than a full size.
Most mattress manufacturers don’t even offer a double size any more.
Each bed was pushed up against each wall.
Well, one was pushed against the bathroom wall and the other was pushed up against the A/C unit front window wall.
The mattresses seemed very old.
So old, that when I sat on the edge of the bed I could feel the wire edge of the mattress.
It was basically an old old old spring mattress with some padding on top. Talk about cheap!!
There was no box-spring, just a raised platform.
I’m 5’9 and my feet were completely hanging off the end of the bed, actually from my ankles to my feet.
Btw… You WILL hear the freeway traffic.
Doors are very hard to close. It seemed everybody had to slam them to get them to close properly.
There are no in-room directories for nearby restaurants or even for channel lineups on the TV.
Finally found the guide channel on the TV but it was really fuzzy and hard to read (bad reception?).
Our TV remote didn’t work so we had to call the front desk. They came and replaced the batteries.
Don’t the maids test everything in the room any more??
There were people hanging out in the breezeways and on the balconies.
People talking loudly, in the breezeways, with no considerations that other people are actually trying to sleep at 3am.
Facing the hotel from the freeway the left driveway is for truckers to come down to park in the rear of the hotel and you WILL hear them at all hours if you’re on that side of the hotel.
The floor is fake wood laminate stickers which means you can hear people walking around in the rooms above yours. We certainly heard the guy above us before bed time and at 330 in the morning.
This must have been done when M6 owned it as they went to this same type of flooring a while back.
(It’s also the reason I won’t stay at a M6 anymore.)
Not to mention the dog that would bark, in the middle of the night, in the room next to ours.
Door jam, lock area, looked like someone had tried to light it on fire previously or the mechanics of the electronic lock caught on fire at one point.
I had to plug in the TV & microwave myself.
I guess that clock on the microwave was costing them money …lol.
Speaking of clocks, there was none. No suitcase stand. No hairdryer. No chairs. No pen & paper either.
there was alight in the clothes hanging area, but no switch to turn it on ....???
No working bathroom fan, although our room did come with its very own fly.
There was also a mid-sized fridge and microwave.
Wi-fi was about the only “good” thing, surprisingly.
Every time the A/C came on the air that came out just smelled “old”.
I wonder when the filters were last cleaned or replaced ….19??.
Bath amenities were the smallest I’ve ever seen.
Shampoo and conditioner came in like those ketchup to-go pouches (see pic).
Bar of soap was actually half the size as the old hotel soaps from the 70’s, but they did give us 2 of them.
Parking lot/driveways could use new asphalt as the old asphalt is about gone, especially on the truck access side.
Would I stay here again? No.
I like a bigger room, usually with a desk chair and a room chair.
I paid in the upper $70’s for the room on a reservation.
I’d say it’s true worth is about $30 – $40 a night at best.
Great candidate for that old show “Hotel Impossible”.
Lesson learned. Never again!
