Not what we booked

Reviewed 2 december, 2022

As a wheelchair user we always book an accessible room. This break was a romantic getaway for our birthdays, so we booked well in advance. Upon arrival we were told the only room we could have was a twin, after pointing out what we had booked, they best they could Offer were two queen beds. Getting into the room we then find it was not an accessible room, also no walk-in shower which made washing in the high bath a real problem. Tired after a long journey, and being English, meant we struggled with room for 4 days. Not the stay we were hoping for, or indeed had booked

Will definitely go back

The Filipino staffs assigned in the breakfast buffet and the receptionist are very accommodating and welcoming. They provided us special assistance even when we don’t need one but never hesitated to help us when we asked, and also gave us treats when we are about to go home. Definitely a memorable experience in Renaissance Hotel plus the location is just in the center so it’s easy to wander. I also love the club lounge!

Has definitely gone downhill.

Reviewed 14 november, 2022

Don't be fooled by the management photo's online for this hotel. This is our 3rd time that we have stayed here in 7 years. In that time it has severely gone downhill. Everything needs to be updated in this hotel. We stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels so that we can accumulate stays and points. I am embarrassed to have this hotel on the list of Marriott Bonvoy hotels to choose from. The room that we had in our most recent stay was so small that we had to put one of our bags on the desk in the room and we only travelled with 2 bags. And to put our other bag on the portable luggage stand we had to move a floor lamp and a chair around to be able to set it up, which then blocked access to the dresser. As you can see from the few photo's that I took of the room, it's in desperate need of a thorough cleaning and has numerous maintenance issues. I'm not sure what was on the light switches beside the bed but it was horribly filthy along with the most grungiest carpet. I refused to walk on it in with bare feet. The walls were filthy and had numerous gouges and smears on them. The ceiling in the entryway was askew and not seated properly and the lights in the entryway looked like they had been changed with the hands from a greasy auto mechanic. The curtains had stains of some sort all over them. The bathroom had water damage all over it. The door on the bathroom had NO latch on it and in order for it to be able to somewhat close they had pushed a paper clip inside where the latch was missing. The hallways in the hotel were just as bad and held a certain odour. Not up to standards. Look elsewhere.

Never go, they will charge you unfair for smoking

Security manager is nonsense person. They blamed me I smoked in room and charged me 180 euro, upon resisting for this unfair treatment, I am non smoker and frequent traveller, so I know hotel norms and I always obey. he threatened me to call police, strange behaviour. Will never Go again.

Great Location Wonderful Staff

Reviewed 14 november, 2022

This is my second 3 night stay at Renaissance Amsterdam and it never fails to be a wonderful experience. It’s central location to the train station and the heart of central Amsterdam and many historic treasures is a big bonus. Upon arrival my friend and I were warmly greeted by Sebastien the Duty Manager and shown to our lovely large family style double room. It was spacious, immaculate and well appointed. We also met Sophia, the front office manager, Arthur, the executive chef and last but not least, the lovely Francia, who was in charge of the Club Lounge. Obviously we spent some quality time there during tea and wine. It’s wonderful to see some of the same staff back after the Covid shut down. We were all delighted to see each other again. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, with everything you can imagine and Arthur overseas everything! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam..
