Nice, but missing the WOW! factor of other Secrets resorts
Reviewed 4 September, 2021
If you have been to other Secrets resorts (we've been to 3 in Mexico and 1 in the DR) then you will be somewhat disappointed with the St. Martin resort. The facilities are average and do not have the WOW! factor that we've experienced at other Secrets resorts. The food and service is also not on the same level. However, it seems that for St. Martin, which is still very much recovering from Hurricane Irma 4 years ago, Secrets would be amongst the top resorts on the island. So, it is all a matter of expectations and perspectives.
The location is stunning! As you make your way over the steep hill toward Anse Marcel you are greeted with sheer beauty. Nice beach with NO vendors, mostly calm waves (at least while we were there). The snorkeling at the resort was not that great--but we didn't find it very good anywhere else either during our stay.
We had a preferred swim-out room. We really enjoyed the swim-out! The Preferred Club at this resort isn't really anything special. I wouldn't spend extra for that--but the swim-out was great.
Rooms are meticulously clean--just like the other Secrets we have stated at. The staff at St. Martin are very friendly, but as mentioned did not provide quite the same level of service we've experienced at other Secrets. For example, when we arrived we had to unload our luggage from the car. No big deal--but every other Secrets had 1-2 people at the car as soon as we arrived getting our bags. We also had to wait a little while to check in, even though there were no other guests in the lobby at the time. At the pool we would get towels from the towel hut and make up the loungers. Again, no big deal but other Secrets had pool attendants who insisted on making up the loungers for you. So, just some little things that we came to expect from Secrets that we didn't experience at this one.
Bottom line--if you are heading to St. Martin and want a quiet, all-inclusive resort then you should definitely check out this one. But if you are more focused on high-end food and service along with stunning facilities, then you may want to look at one of Secrets' other locations.

I booked a trip to Secrets St Martin for March 5-8 2020, for a group of 24, they required I wire transfer $22,000 deposit in early January, which I did. A week before the trip they notified me that they could not accommodate our group and would transfer our reservation to a different property. Upon arriving at the other property, they did not have our reservation so I had to make new ones and pay for each. Understanding the COVID situation I have been very patient but now 17+ months have passed and they still will not reimburse my deposit.
Beach is the highlight

The resort is well maintained and the room (Swim Out) was spacious. The food was average and same for the bars and entertainment. However, the pool was excellent and the highlight was the beautiful beach with white sand and nice warm water which was calm. Housekeeping also did a good job. Be careful about your luggage if you give it to the bell captain. One of our bags was taken by another guest inadvertently to St. Martin airport at checkout. We were very lucky to get it at the airport. This caused us a lot of stress and left a bitter taste at the end.
Anniversary at Secrets St Martin

What an amazing 8 days. The resort is well kept, even during our visit in the beginning of the off season as well as through covid season. We expected limited restaurant selections as that is a business reality, but the options were awesome. Mediterranean and Italian restaurants swapped nights at same location, Japanese was open most nights as was hibatchi table most nights. Breakfast and lunch were readily available, with lunch having an incredible local flair - curries, fish, jerk chicken, etc.
Pool was immaculate, watched it get cleaned every morning. The beach was great and clean, minimal seaweed during our trip, and with all beaches in SM being public, the whole cove was pleasantly clean.
Housekeeping twice a day, everything kept up real well along with turn down service
Pardon is spellings are off...
Claude and Patricio run hospitality and what a job they do!!! They are 100% hands on with customers, and ensure that their employees are the same.
Ditrey running drinks to the beach was nonstop and a wonderful personality
J Leeta and Kenny working the beach bar were top notch
Keyla, Elisha and Michelle running the preferred bar, great drinks and wonderful conversations
Mimi and crew (never caught all names, too early in morning) greeted us at breakfast and made sure we got a smile and chat, checking on our stay so far and giving ideas for fun trips.
We even got to meet the hotel manager, Estaban and his beautiful wife!!!
I cannot stress how much this felt like a family as soon as we got there. Estaban stressed that with us - his people are the foundation of a business, and the welcoming feeling from everyone was the strong structure of this highly embracing resort!!
We wandered off site also, did a trip to Orient Beach for a halfday, an island tour in a taxi, a boat charter to 6 inlets, and a Marigot/Case Grand wandering trip to change things up and see the island. It is a gorgeous island - I know Secrets is all inclusive, but so worth getting off site.
Speaking of which, the taxi driver, Nigil - he works from Secrets only and goes anywhere on the island. If you are going to wander, he sits in front of Secrets, did our island tour (obvious lifelong resident of SM), and two trips. He is more than helpful and accommodating.
Amazing place and people. On the quiet side of the island, so relaxing. Just go!!!
Excellent Resort & Staff

After a disappointing stay on the Dutch side, the hospitality and friendliness of the staff at the Secrets was a welcome surprise.
The rooms are really well designed - towels, bath robes, decor, furniture all makes you feel like your at upscale resort. The property itself is also beautiful with well maintained landscaping, great pool and a private beach.
The bartending service was great no matter where we stopped - the club lounge, the pool, the main bar (by the lobby) they were always willing to make you anything you want or even hear your preferences and make you something new and delicious.
The food was exceptional at every restaurant we went to and I loved the little desserts they had out each day at the club lounge. Although, the room service wasn't good at all. I ordered nachos and received stale chips with ranch and blue cheese dressing in place of sour cream. The desserts was also lower quality than the restaurants - all that's to say just go to the restaurants and skip room service.
The gym was also super hot - I don't know why they don't run the AC, but it was hotter in the gym than it was outside, which was surprising considering how great everything else was.
Lastly, the covid testing was super easy. They scheduled it for us when we arrived - it was right on-site and they print results for you the next day. We talked to some others on a tour and compared to their experiences ours was a far less stressful experience.
This was our first time staying at a Secrets property, but after a great stay in St. Martin - it definitely won't be our last.
