Bang for your buck..ish
It's located in the center of San Pedro, so everything you need is handy, like restaurants, tourist agencies, a pharmacy (should you need it), and close to the town square where are some local activities. And yet, you are retired enough from the loud music or chatters on the street. Our room was simple, hot, and no, they don't have a ceiling or portable ventilator. Over the night you can hear the people's footsteps because all the floor is made of a "cracking sound" wood. They have their own restaurant and the breakfast was really good, on par with 4 to 5 stars hotels. It has a hot shower, but be quick, it runs dry fast. Location 5 stars Breakfast 5 stars Room and amenities 3 stars So on average a 4, I know they can improve on some little things If you have any questions, ask me!
I stayed here in January with part of a tour group and found the hotel ideal. The room we had was fine, we had enough space. You are only sleeping in it. It didn't have A/C but we opened the window. The bathroom was adequate for what we needed, and we had hot water. The breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice, it was busy so pick your time to go. The pool area was finished when we were there. It doesn't have a proper bar, but the management were happy for us to buy beers and leave in the fridge in the bar downstairs. 2 nights we were there they had a local band playing traditional music which was fabulous, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that listened. Alex seemed to be the main man in the evenings and he was so hospitable to us, making sure we had enough seats and glasses for our own drinks. The location was ideal for the centre of the town and the restaurants. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in that area.
A reasonable hotel, since you're in San Pedro
Don Raul is, as said in many others reviews, a smart choice since you think in San Pedro! What i mean? So, Don Raul would be a worst place in the world if you see by any other perspective, as New York, Rio de Janeiro, Katmandu or even small places like the rustic Jericoacoara (northern Brazil) or the unreal Varanasi (India)! But, in Atacama, you'll have 2 options: 2 or 3 very (really very!) expensive hotels not so close of Caracoles street (the epicenter of everything!) or a lot of places nearly equals, here and there with some "highlights" but that, after all, will server you the same way! So, in the last mile, you'll have to decide if you want to be 1 minute, 5 minutes or 30 minutes walking from the main street! About the facilities of Don Raul? Well, is within Caracoles, but the rooms are more than rustic, smaller than a bathroom 5* hotel style (or even 4*, maybe 3* as well!), the bathroom itself is smaller than a elevator at an 5* hotel (or 4*!), peeled walls, no TV, no fridge, no A/C, wifi poor, even no fan! In October we had to leave the window (the small and unique wooden window) slightly opened to get some fresh air! At the time of visit, the restaurant wasn't working too, opening only for breakfast (good, i must to say)! So, if you are thinking drinking a beer or anything else after a intense tour day, you'll have to buy it on the vicinity! And, buy only 1 at each time, because you won't have a place to keep it cold! But, all of that is real life there, in Atacama! That's why Don Raul is a smart choice! Oh, i've read about noise coming from another room, but we didn't notice anything like that! My stay was in October, 2019!
Great location and social areas!
Don Raul is located right in the center of the town, making it easily accessible to all of the tour drop-offs and for walking around for a bite to eat. The rooms were great, but can get hot at night. Spotty wifi and there was some confusion about an airport pick up, but overall great comfortable place to stay!
Not so good
Hotel is terrible. I can not imagine that it could be so bad. Room is small, dark, but clean. Breakfast is ok. Wifi is working in all places. Reception can not speak English, working really slow. Need more comfortable.
