stay at The Grove Seaside Resort
the staff were so friendly, professional and accommodating at all times. The food was varied and extremely tasty, every day there was a good selection of fresh and wholesome recipes...loved it. Did running ...walking and cycling. it was a very relaxed and tranquil place.
Typical Greek beach hotel on the county side Nice beach for swimming directly in front. We had half board booked. Selection of food a bit limited but good quality and tasty. Very friendly service - so we liked it Rooms renovated and nice, only the beds are very very soft. If you wanna explore the Peloponnese around (Mycenes, Epidaurus, Nafplio,...) you better come by rental car
The Grove is a beautiful, quiet relaxing hotel with very friendly staff lovely restaurant pool bar and beach I had a lovely holiday with my family. A good choice of food and excellent service especially the reception staff who were incredibly helpful when I had to get my daughter to a hospital Elena Belessi was very kind and reassuring. It is in a quiet location with Tolo not too far away with great restaurants and bars. There was a free shuttle to Nafplio on a Tuesday had a fab day there, this was a really enjoyable family holiday.
Access to the beach and live entertainment - weekly basis
Very well situated, it allows for a walk on the beach (less than 200 m away) with a view on the ocean. We were also entertained by locals who danced (live typical greek music) and also invited us to learn a few steps as well. Be aware the entertainment is on a weekly basis only. The pool side offered a quite space, when needed, in the afternoon.
Excellent Value and Quiet Location
Overall Impression: Overall the Grove Seaside resort offers excellent value for money, with a good range of food, drinks and facilities with friendly staff. We'd highly recommend this hotel and the location if you want to escape the more touristy areas of Greece. We booked through 5vorflug (a German operator), who organised flights, the accommodation and airport transfer. Beach: The hotel has a stretch of beach along the front with umbrellas and sunbeds (6 EUR a pair for visitors, free for guests of the hotel). The beach itself is predominantly stoney but in the sea was sandy underfoot with area of rocks for snorkelling (mind the sea urchins though). Getting sunbeds was not an issue any time of day, so no need to run to the front at 6am. Sea was lovely and clear. Pool: We only spent half a day here because we prefer the sea, but the pool itself is nice and getting sunbeds seemed relatively straight forward. Food: Breakfast is largely straightforward, egg, sausages, toast, cold meats, cheese, orange juice, coffee, fruits etc. Occasionally, fresh pancakes were available but not always. The lunchtime and evening food was served as a buffet style, with usually 6 options for hot food (usually 2-3 meat/seafood, 1-2 sides, 1 vegetarian), a decent range of salad options, 2 dessert options and fruit. Twice a week, the hotel has a bbq buffet instead, 1 day meat, 1 day fish. Usually served with buffet Baklava (a dangerous concept). Overall, the food was very good, don't expect fresh to order restaurant quality because it is a mass catering buffet after all, but even so the quality is very good. Particularly the Greek cuisine is the highlight here (makes sense, no?). There were a few themed evenings (Italian, Mexican, Asian) which weren't as good in my opinion. In the afternoon, biscuits, cakes and ice cream are served. Unfortunately, most of these are leftovers from breakfast and can be a bit stale tasting. The ice cream was available in vanilla, strawberry or chocolate. Drinks: The hotel offers a range of drinks included in the all inclusive package, including basics like tea, coffee, lemonade, cola, beer, wines etc. A range of local spirits were also available along with 4 cocktails gin fizz, tequila sunrise, aperol spritz and cuba libre. The range was good and unlimited gin fizz is never a bad thing. Drinks can be bought at the pool bar and can be taken on the beach in plastic cups (bring a reusable maybe if you want to reduce the carbon footprint). Rooms: The rooms are fairly basic but tick all the boxes required, air conditioning (included), safe (costs extra), shower, wardrobe and balcony with table and chairs. Bedroom was nice, bathroom was a little dated but overall well kept. Location: The hotel itself is outside of Drepano, about 2 hours from Athens (1.5 h if driven by a crazy Greek driver who adds 60 kmph onto the speed limits). Drepano is fairly small with a few small supermarkets, tourist shops and a bakery (worth a visit to get some proper baklava, bring a tub to bring some back for friends and family or just to eat yourself). The area is quite mountainous (not Drepano itself) and the sea is enclosed on three sides due as it is an indent, which makes for a lovely backdrop for sitting at the beach or going for a stroll. There are a few bigger resorts in the area but the location made it frankly a lot quieter and a more authentic Greek experience. We drove through the next resort along, Tolo, which has more going on but is frankly too touristy for my liking. Service: Generally the service was pretty good, everyone was friendly and could speak English and German (we speak both). Occasionally, if we sat in certain areas of the restaurant, getting drinks was a bit problematic. Trips: A range of trips are arranged by the hotel, most at extra cost but the hotel offers a free bus shuttle on Tuesdays to Nafplio which is worth doing, nice town with a decent climb to a castle with excellent 360 views. Other amenities: There is also a tennis court which is barely used, hard court, nothing fancy but also in relatively good nick. Negatives: There were not many negatives and for value for money, the place is really excellent. However, one or two things were not as satisfactory as could be. First, the rooms themselves are not particularly soundproof between the room and the corridor (between rooms was fine). Second, getting drinks occasionally in the restaurant was difficult, seemed to be mainly when we sat in the middle between areas with different waiters (is it mine or yours?). I would also have preferred if the safe was included but not a big issue if it wasn't. As mentioned by a few, some of the furnishings were a bit dated, the rooms and the restaurant were fine but the corridors were less good.
