Brit abroad

Reviewed 11 february, 2020

I decided to wait till I got to Buzios to book a hotel as wanted to see the town and beaches first...turned out to be good idea. Colonna Galapagos is right over two beaches toward the end of the peninsula which are crowded but lovely (hotel comes with beach beds/umbrella on small beach 5 mins walk but also you can use their sister hotels' on bigger next door beach; if you like slight Ibiza style music with your Caiperinha then go to #brothersrgroove at their beach bar, white umbrellas I think)...main bonus is that both beaches' bars shut down at 6/7 so it's incredibly peaceful in the evening. If you want busy then it's a R50 taxi into main Buzios for great restaurants and nightlife. We drove in first night and parking's impossible or R40/50 for 2 take the cab....or just stay by the pool with it's awesome view! Obrigado

Wonderful view!!!

Great hotel! Wonderful view!!! Nice room. Comfortable bed. The breakfast is good and it is served near the pool. Don't forget to lay in the couch and enjoy the view, it's relaxing and energizing. Need more care in the bathroom but it's worth.

Not a Boutique Hotel

Reviewed 30 september, 2014

On, it states that this Hotel is Called Collona Gallapagos Boutique Hotel. Looking at the photos the hotel looks nice and you get seduced by the word "Boutique". This is definitely NOT a Boutique Hotel and the Hotel Themselves don' even call themselves that. There are too two hotels from the same owner and they are Called Gallapagos Inn Hotel and Collona Park Hotel. None of them is called what it states on On our arrival at the hotel, we were given a room that smelled to mold. The hotel itself looks old and nothing like a Boutique Hotel. After we complained, we were given another hotel room, we were given another room that smelled to cleaning product. This was 11,30pm so we could not do anything else. The internet in the room did not work. We complained and we were told that the servers room werent accessible at the time and we had to wait until the following morning so they could speak to the IT team. The following morning, I realised that our balcony door could not be locked. I highlight this to the reception and remind them about the wifi problem and they assured me that everything was going to be sorted on the same day. At 3pm, we come back from the beach and nothing is sorted. I called reception and complained and now they tell me that as per their contract with the 3rd party IT provider, they have 48 hours to fix the internet. I was there for 48 hours only and wasnt happy with that and continue my complain and the staff has the guts to tell me that at the house, sometimes they don't have internet for a week. My immediate reaction was to say, I am not at your house and am paying a lot of money for a good service. Then, was told that this is how Buzios is (It is not so dont be put off by it). Then I complain about the lock and that gets sorted immediately after my room was wide open through the balcony for about 8 hours! Anyone could have jumped in my balcony and opened the door in the time that I was on the beach. The breakfast is OK. Fresh orange juice which was nice but food very basic. My overall advice. You can find better value for your money. The hotel is in a nice beach but it is far from the town where the shops are. You could walk but you have to go up and down a big hill which you wouldnt like to do after a nice shower and a good meal.

Great balcony & sea view but go elsewhere!

Reviewed 30 april, 2010

This hotel was very run down and you can get a much better pousada or hotel in a better location for less. While we had a fantastic sea view balcony to watch the sunsets and the rooms were spacious, they were not nice rooms to spend time in. The furniture was old, the curtains and bedspreads have seen better days, the ceiling was peeling badly, there were cracks in the sink, threadbare towels etc. etc. The breakfast was ok but as we like to miss the first rush by the time we got down there was very little fresh fruit, eggs etc. but you can ask for fresh eggs how you like them and there was plenty of cereal, breads, yogurt and coffee. The location was not ideal for us. there is one main beach a 2 min walk away but we didn't like it so chose to drive to try the other beachs. You really need a car to stay here but there is free parking. At night it did not feel safe to walk to the centre as the route was quite poorly lit & there were several very steep hills so we just drove or took a taxi (10 mins). The staff were all very friendly when we spoke to them and there was also free use of beach chairs and parasols but despite this I would certainly not return to this hotel or recommend.
