Nice place, with a few weirdly missed things

I'm going to start with the negative first, and end on a positive note because, overall, we enjoyed our stay here, and the negatives are all small things, but when combined together, were annoying. That being said, no major issues, just minor annoyances.
First of all, we booked a King studio. It was my first time ever actually booking a hotel; someone else in my party usually does this, so I was EXTREMELY careful to ensure I booked the right room. I went over it several times, and said it out loud to have my partner confirm I was selecting the right room. When we arrived, we opened the door and see it has 2 queen beds instead of a king. Not a huge issue, but my partner and I are both a little on the chunky side, and while we have a queen bed at home, and do fine on it, when we travel, we like to enjoy a bit bigger bed. So that was annoyance #1
Next, since we had been traveling all day, I had to pee, so I made a beeline for the bathroom and immediately noticed there was no toilet paper - anywhere. I looked in cabinets, I looked behind the toilet, I looked in the closet, I even looked in the kitchen cabinets. I finally found a box of Kleenex that did the trick for the moment, but I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever been to a hotel that didn't have a brand new roll of toilet paper waiting for me. Again, just a minor annoyance, as this was easily reconciled by a trip to the front desk, but to me it said that whoever cleaned the room, did it quickly and carelessly.
So after I solved my wiping needs, I turned around to flush the toilet - It didn't flush. I lifted the back and noticed that there was no water in the toilet and the flappy thing (whatever the official name for the stopper is) was stuck in the up position. I flicked at it, and once it went down, the reservoir started to fill with water. We had to do this EVERY TIME one of us went to the bathroom. This was a bit more annoying as I tend to be a 2am, then 3 am, then 4 am pee-er, and groggy me forgot a couple times. Now, I will admit, we probably should have said something to the front desk about this immediately, and they probably would have fixed it, but we didn't want them coming in and disturbing our privacy, so we chose to deal with the issue and just let them know about it at check out.
So now that I've wiped, and pseudo-flushed, I go to wash my hands, at it is at this moment that I realize...NO TOWELS. Seriously? No towels? This has to be a first for me as well. No hand towels, no rags, no bath towels. Again, the housekeeper of this room must have had a lot of other things on his/her mind when they cleaning. Again - an easy fix, but another trip to the front desk.
Finally, after a long night out on the town, we come back to take a shower. The first part of this is more of an observance than anything, because this is an amenity that not all hotels provide, and I always come prepared, so it had no impact on us, but this place provides shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. However, in his/her haste, our speedy little housekeeper failed to provide any conditioner ,but rather left two bottles of shampoo. Thankfully, I never use the provided soaps, but for someone who may have been counting on using them, I can see how this would be an annoyance.
What was worse about the shower, however, and I can't believe I didn't even notice this until I actually went to take a shower, there was NO SHOWER CURTAIN. And these aren't the types of showers that don't need them, there are no glass doors or anything else around the shower, it's just your typical bath/shower combo that most people have in their homes that require shower curtains. There was a shower rod, but no curtain - so someone obviously knew it was a requirement. By this point, I was exhausted, and we were wearing a hole in the carpet from our room to the front desk, so I showered anyways, sans curtain. As you can imagine, there was water everywhere. On the bathroom floor, on the toilet, on the mirror - everywhere. I sopped most of it up with the towel that we had to hunt down earlier in the day.
Now, again, these are all minor things, but I feel like they show a bigger, underlying problem. Especially in today's world, where we are living in pandemic situations, one should hope that they have a safe harbor, and that extra care is being taken to ensure a hotel room is clean. I feel like our room was cleaned very hastily, and with very little care.
One more thing before I get to the positives - and this isn't really the hotel's fault, but more something to be aware of, and actually I think making note of this will be helpful to their business. As we approached for the first time, one of the first things I noticed were homeless tents lined along the roadway everywhere. It was extremely unattractive, and some people might say they don't feel safe in that type of environment. I don't necessarily subscribe to the theory that just because homeless people are around, it's not a safe place, but it certainly is an eye sore. Now, that being said, this was my first visit to Austin, and I learned very quickly that this is pretty much how all of Austin is. It's sad. I've never seen so many tents in my life, camped out under every overpass, on just about every road downtown, it's heartbreaking, and I don't know what is going on in Austin, but I hope they find a solution soon. I bring this up to advise anyone, don't let it discourage you from staying here, I suspect just about any hotel in town, unless you find a really fancy one, in a really fancy area, is going to have this same problem
Ok...now for the fun parts.
The room is really nice, the layout is open and convenient, the appliances in the kitchen are in good condition, and the cabinets are modern and eye appealing. In fact, the entire room itself is designed very well and looks nice, I LOVE the giant corner desk in the studio, it almost makes me want to bring work with me next time. The front desk staff is very cordial - not overly nice, but they never got annoyed with all of our requests. There is plenty of parking, the location itself is pretty decent, there is plenty to do within a 10- mile radius, but it is about a 20 minute trip downtown. The rooms are quiet, we never heard anyone around us. Most importantly, we felt safe here.
Overall, despite the few issues, I would stay here again, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good mid-range place to stay.

We stayed here for 49 days while waiting for our new home to close. Hotel was less than a year old, so facilities were in good shape.
Free washer/dryer, but 2 out of 3 washers were always “out of order”. So the one washer working was hard to grab, it was always being used.
Food cupboard was nice, with free packets of instant oatmeal and free coffee/tea, apples and sometimes bananas. And other food to purchase.
Staff were friendly but needed more help. In the 49 days we were there, our room was only cleaned 2 times. The maid would literally clean every room around ours and the whole floor it seemed but never ours. I had asked the front desk about it and they said ours was scheduled. But every week no maid came. I think they only had 2 maids for the whole hotel.
The worst part of our stay was because of the occupants across the hall from us. They were up from 1:30 am to 6am, all night in and out of their room, slamming doors, arguing and had 3 dogs barking constantly. No sleep for us for a week!
Since the hotel allowed dogs, there was dog feces EVERYWHERE. No one picked up after their dog, and allowed them to poop all around the hotel doors. Awful smell and flies.
Workout room was great.
No free breakfast, which would have been nice.
Upon checkout, they couldn’t close out my hotel bill. The front desk clerk didn’t know how to calculate the bill. Very odd, and it’s been 3 days and they still haven’t issued me my credit - yes I was over billed.
Also, I was told I have no IHG hotel reward points after staying for 49 days. Super angry about this the most. I would have def stayed somewhere else, if I had known this first.
Prob won’t stay at another Candlewood, unless it was a last resort.
