We stayed here for a week in September and very much rated this hotel! The views are stunning, the pool area is excellent and spacious, the staff are EXTREMELY helpful & courteous and the food (we were on Half Board) was excellent.
If you haven’t been to Croatia before, Dubrovnik is an excellent place to visit and the Old City is stunning. You will almost certainly have a great time because Croatia and its people are very welcoming and the resorts here are lovely.
This was our first trip abroad in two years and Covid precautions both here and in Croatia were fine and no trouble. Fabulous hotel, good value for money and we will definitely return!
Can I go back please?

What we loved?
Room 1 (Double): Comfy room, comfy bed, beach-side location was lovely for flinging open the balcony door and listening to the waves lapping the shore.
The food (breakfast and dinner in main buffet) was excellent and varied.
The beach. Just lovely. And there wasn’t the usual ‘towel on beds’ rush every morning which was a pleasant surprise. Sea was lovely and warm, despite the pebbly beach and getting your feet torn to shreds getting in and out the sea at various points along the beach!!
The terrace bar of an evening. So relaxing to sit there and enjoy a drink, great service as well.
The pool: a bit on the small side, but pretty nice nonetheless.
The walk into Lapad along the coastline ‘promenade’ (takes 10-15 mins).
The sunsets. We even enjoyed the monumental thunder storms!
Raising an eyebrow to:
Room 2 (Twin): Just a bit tatty, panels missing, holes in wall, perhaps it was due refurbishment?
Paying (thru the nose) for water at dinner. Free jugs of tap water wouldn’t go amiss. Drinks generally pretty expensive.
The shower: hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold (you get the picture).
Very stingy on the in-room tea and coffee facilities. And not keen at replacing loo-role either (calls reception and asks for loo roll)!!
Staff generally a bit terse on front desk, they lacked ‘warmth’.
Those central stairs!! And those lifts that had a mind of their own!
We loved it here! Superb hotel and lots of lovely memories.
A Must Stay

We stayed at the Valamar for our honeymoon and we were blown away by the views, the 5 star customer service & cleanliness of the hotel. The housekeeping team is incredible and so friendly. The breakfast buffet is AMAZING, there's gorgeous views of the ocean and mountains from anywhere. The staff is exceptional, especially Mario and Josip at the pool bar! They took care of us and made sure we always had cold drinks and were so attentive and kind. All around best resort we've stayed at. Loved every minute of our trip!!

We have just returned from our first holiday after many cancellations last year due to covid. The hotel is not the prettiest to look at from outside but nicely decorated and modern internally. We stayed in a premium room on the 8th floor which was large and had lots of storage space which is quite rare in hotels. The bathroom is large with a modern bath, two sinks, separate shower cubicle and toilet cubicle - nice, modern and clean. The toiletries were a let down, big (presumably) reusable/refilled shower gel, not what is expected for a 5 star. It overlooked the swimming pool with fabulous views out to the sea too, very clean, maid was good and cleaned the room each day without us seeing her. V level was not available for us to pay for and in the end we decided this would have been a waste of money as the breakfast in the main restaurant was very good, catering to every taste. We did not like the beach area, far too crowded so opted for the calmer pool area when we did take a rest, we always found a lounger at any time of the day. There is a nice promenade down to Lapad, we did not like Lapad area it was a bit tacky in our opinion, there are restaurants there but we didn't go down there again. The promenade has a few restaurants at the top end from the hotel which are lovely. The promenade also allows for quiet areas to sit/sunbathe on the rocks and enter the sea, there are plenty of benches dotted around too. Such a lovely way to get some seclusion and go in the sea, much better than the general beach area we thought, but you do have to be able to navigate around the big rocks and would need good beach shoes as it can be slippery going into the water. The water is crystal clear, so gorgeous. We ate in the bar area on two nights and the food was lovely. Dubrovnik old town was fantastic, we ate in there 3 nights and really anywhere you choose there would be great food we think. The walk around the walls was great. We found every member of staff at the hotel to be very friendly and helpful and they all wore their face masks constantly. The hotel also has an antigen test arrangement for return to the UK which was very helpful. The breakfast was buffet and you had to wear your mask to walk around, helping yourself to the food which did seem odd to be doing again, but plenty of sanitisers around everywhere, to be honest we didn't see anyone use them, but we sanitised once we got back to the table, it's just the strange time we live in now but it did build our confidence back up, everyone seemed respectful of the rules. We rented our own small boat for a day 250euros but worth it, we found some lovely secluded areas to park the boat and swim or eat lunch. All in all a lovely break for my husband and I to escape the last year and a half of missed anniversaries. We would now like to explore other areas in Croatia as it is so beautiful.

Having returned yesterday from a 10 night stay I would recommend spending less money and stay at the royal blue next door hotel. Advertised as 5 star I personally would not say it is and would say 4 star. Spa facilities we tried to book a massage each no slots available for whole 10 days yet we saw no guests having treatments. The hotel room was very basic and not a patch on the luxury at the royal blue. No luxury bathroom toiletries, no turn down each evening (there is at RB) efficient polite team in the hotel but felt very corporate no personality or banter laughter fun. Tried to get a bed on the beach unsuccessful each attempt so stayed around pool where there was plenty of beds and no having to arrive there early. Food was good plenty of choice at breakfast but again not as high a standard as RB adjacent hotel. We enjoyed our break but for the saving of £400 each we have booked 2022 at Royal Blue where we have previously booked 2years (just felt like a change this year an expensive mistake) sadly we felt the standards were not what we were expecting it felt tired and in need of an upgrade in standards to achieve the 5 star it advertised.
