More about the hotel
Not up to Hampton Inn standards
I think this must be one of the older Hampton Inns. In any case they are not trying very hard at this location and it shows. The room was very bland and basic. We paid for an upgraded room with a sofa which was old, dreary and uncomfortable. I think the TV had been replaced at some point with a smaller one. Didn't even have a rack for luggage. It was ok as a very basic hotel, but I will try the nearby Holiday Inn Express or Best Western before staying here again.
Comfortable Room
My husband, myself, and our 5 year old son decided to go trick or treating in Smithville due to the lack of Halloween events in our area. Bastrop was the closest town with a Hilton branded hotel, so we decided on staying at the Hampton Inn. When we arrived, we were quickly checked in. The girl behind the desk wasn't rude, but she wasn't super friendly either. She smiled a couple of times, but it just didn't feel authentic. She never told us where the elevators were located, what time breakfast was or anything like that. She did mention the Halloween event at the hotel though. Also, the hotel has a notice on their door saying masks are required to enter. However, the same girl who checked us in did not wear her mask the entire time she was checking us in. It didn't bother us, but don't try to tell guests they have to wear masks when staff does not wear them. Our room looked a bit dated, and I think the hotel could use a facelift, but it was very clean and comfortable. Noise was minimal which was a plus. The beds were also comfortable. Breakfast was a bit of a let down. There was yogurt, apples, milk, biscuits, turkey sausage, and scrambled eggs to choose from. I would have liked more fruit options such as diced fruit as well as boiled eggs like previous Hamptons. Cereal would have been nice choice too for the kids. The girl checking us out was much nicer and friendlier though, so I was happy about that. All in all, this is a decent hotel to stay at. Hopefully they will up their breakfast game because it is lacking. I also hope they will update this hotel soon because it's looking dated with the decor and what not. We would definitely stay at this hotel again though!
Friendly, helpful service and convenient location.
I was here to evacuate from Hurricane Laura, as were many people at the hotel. They were very accommodating to my schedule since I Was not quite sure of arrival and departure date. Front desk and cleaning staff were very pleasant. Rooms were clean and beds comfy. Located next to Walmart, HEB so it was easy to get things you might need. The downsides were... it seems to be an older hotel. The door to our room stuck and you had to slam it to close. Toilet in our room was not right as far as tank refilling. We managed it and did not get staff involved. Also, no breakfast buffet due to Covid (not staff’s fault ). Their breakfast was coffee, muffins, cereal bars, bottled water. No fridge in my room. Pool was also closed for same reason. Overall we had a nice stay. Hampton Inns are always fine for us. Great customer service at this location!
Slightly disappointed
Beautiful newer building, with nice updated decor. Comfortable, clean room. Only issue with the room was the bathroom door wouldn't close. They gave us another room. In that room, toilet wouldn't flush and trim was loose in the bathroom. The indoor pool was closed and the breakfast bag had a muffin with mold on it.
Work
Nykki was an excellent front desk clerk. She was very helpful and answered all questions and made me feel so comfortable. I felt like family. She did a fantastic job. I will return because of her. Thank you Nykki.
