Not promising

The cleaning is bad, and the beds terrible! I’m surprised that’s the minibar only had water, and nothing else. I just stayed on another 4* hotel outside Bilbao, and compared to that hotel, this is only 2*-3*. Remember the parking is 21€ per day, it’s cheaper on the street. I’m not a fan.

2 night stay

I stayed with my partner and 5 year old. Lovely boutique hotel, very central. We were facing the street so was very noisy at night with drunken people outside ( even with the windows shut). The reception staff were very nice. The first morning we had breakfast , included in our price and was very enjoyable. The second morning there was an older Spanish waitress who was very rude. We were going to fix up for one breakfast on checkout but she made a big deal that we had only booked one breakfast and spoke to us in Spanish. I told her that I did not understand but she continued to raise her voice. My 5 year old ate nothing so we put some melon slices in a lunch for up in the room. She charged over and raised her voice in Spanish pointing at the melon slices. . My partner emptied the melon onto a plate which she grabbed and threw in the bin. It was very humiliating. I told reception and they did not seem surprised. When I went to fix up , reception charged us again for the first mornings breakfast which was €16 per head. Also you are charged a daily rate for parking so it all added up to be an expensive stay.

Breakfast staff , be aware one is obnoxious!

Was a wonderful hotel until an obnoxious and rude lady forced us in front of staff and guests to empty out four slices of melon we had put into a lunchbox for our 5 year old to enjoy during the day. We emptied the slices on the table which she then promptly binned !

Great city centre hotel.

Stayed here 2 nights in June. Very helpful reception staff. Our double room was large with well appointed bathroom and large comfortable bed. Well soundproofed, absolutely no street noise whatsoever. The location is great. 10 minute easy walk to Guggenheim and old town area, 2 minutes to nearest metro. As far as bars and restaurants are concerned, everything you need is within a 100 yard radius of the front door. The hotel is on a street lined with them, as is the pedestrianised street to the rear. The cafe/bar/restaurant Iruna is probably the pick of a good bunch. Hotel parking for a large vehicle (Jaguar F-Pace). This is the main reason I picked this hotel. It cost 18euro per night which wasn't that much more than the underground public car park 300yards away. There is a drop off/pick up parking area (limited to 10 minutes only) outside reception for hotel guests. The actual garage door is a few yards further down. This gives access to a steep spiral ramp down to second level parking where the hotel has about 12 or so spaces. No problems getting in or out as the ramp is plenty wide enough for a large vehicle. However, as with all Spanish car parks, the parking bays themselves are a bit narrow and the roof low so be careful opening doors and tailgates. There is a lift back up to reception area.

Very good location, in the centre of Bilbao.

The Abando Hotel is located closed to everything, within walking. Casco Viejo, or Old Town, is a 10 minute walk away and offers cuisine and history. The Grand Via, Bilbao's premier street for shopping and walking/relaxing is directly around the corner. But yet, with all that is going on around it, the Abando is a nice quiet stay with excellent staff and an excellent breakfast.
