Great place to stay
This is a huge complex and lots of rooms. It was quiet during our stay which was nice. Could hear the highway traffic, but it wasn't too bad. The room was very clean and had lots of room. Had a microwave and small refrigerator in the room the and a small coffee pot. We had a backdoor to our room that opened up to a grassy area with a few picnic tables. We will definitely stay here again if we get back put to Carlsbad. NM.
Not that good a place
We spent two nights here in room 250 with the assumption this is a Best Western. The receptionist and breakfast staff were helpful and friendly, although the food wasn’t all that. The room seemed like it had a recent upgrade, was spacious, and a comfortable bed but that’s it -otherwise I’d give a one star. First; the heater was loud, then the refrigerator wasn’t cold due to a broken knob, even the microwave wouldn’t work unless you put pressure on it’s knob. Second; the majority of guest were oil workers from Texas. Ok, fine. But we learned from some locals that since the floodgates are now open for drilling oil, there are a lot of Texans migrating to New Mexico and causing problems both economically and socially within the Carlsbad community (not my words) with the exception of business owners. These locals said that the Stevens Inn was the “go to place” for them as there is a nightclub here. I didn’t have a good nights sleep from the early a.m. laughing, slamming doors and diesel trucks warming up (plus that loud heater). Third; the morning we were getting ready to leave, a hotel worker attempted to gain entry. Now, the door was closed with a “Do Not Disturb” tag on the door handle. I just happened to be standing by the door totally topless when the door suddenly opened. I slammed it shut on this person’s face and yelled some choice words. He or she stood there for a few seconds then casually walked away. No knock on the door, no identifying his or herself -nothing! I was livid. After this , I read up on the “terrible” reviews from this site and determined that thee Ed manager most likely will not do anything about it. I def will not return here.
Stay at the Stevens Inn
Clean room with refrigerator and microwave. The hot breakfast was the same thing all week, not delicious or nutritious, just filling. Coffee service at breakfast was terrible. Two mornings we were not offered coffee at all. Dinner at the Flume was good. Salad bar was great!
Over priced...
The staff was great. The room was huge. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but the double sink out side of it was very nice. Things were nice and clean - but the flies had to die. My husband killed them with a hand towel. When I looked up the place to book a one night stay, it said they had a restaurant - it was closed. (We drove down the street to a Chili's - tiny little Chili's.) It is a large complex, lots of oil field workers must stay, so you hear trucks at all hours. We did go for the breakfast included with the room - nothing to write home about. I took a some scrambled eggs and a sausage, the biscuit was hard. My husband started to laugh because he could hear it when I bit into the biscuit.
Not clean- try somewhere else
We were disappointed in our room. There was a pair of boxers and socks under the bed. The room smelled musty. We were looking forward to a swim but the pool was dirty with leaves and grit. We were told this was because of a recent rain but it obviously had not been cleaned in a while. We discussed this with John at the desk and later with manager Rachel and no refund or lower rate was offered.
