Beautiful hotel with incredible service and food
We had such a great time here. The staff in the hotel were incredible and the service was fantastic - Pino, Angelo and Claudio were particularly great and went above and beyond to make our stay brilliant. They did absolutely everything they could to make us feel comfortable, happy and welcome. The pool, sun lounger area, jacuzzi's and bar were stunning and where we spent a lot of our time! The outlook and location were perfect. Whilst its a little quieter, I would thoroughly recommend staying in Casamicciola rather than Ischia Porto as it's less touristy. Its very very easy to get to local villages for restaurants and activities but Casamicciola and the Gran Paradiso were the perfect calm base for us to stay. The food in the restaurant was amazing, we had our own table by the window the whole time we were there for breakfast and dinner. Doing half board was perfect for us and we were able to swap a dinner for a lunch so that we could sample a couple of local restaurants as well as the hotel.
It was Grand, but not Paradise
I have mixed feelings about the gran paradiso. i do like the location since it is very near to Padre Pio's church and hospital. i also like the majestic view it offers in the morning. i do like the food and the portions they serve. i do like the cheerfulness of the wait staff in the restaurant. i do like the huge receiving area. i do like how the facade was built and designed.i do like a lot of things about the gran paradiso. though, there are also certain things that i wish could be better. and most of this are found in their room. i wish they could have a bigger room as it was not "Gran" enough. it was too small to fit two people. the airconditioning refused to work. the tv is quite small and takes too long to respond in switching channels. the door of the washroom is weird, it is a sliding glass door, but doesn't fully close, the gap is enough for one to see who's inside. in short, the comfort of stay in their rooms is a bit compromised. though overall, it is still a balance. i wont rate it 1 star, nor 5 star. somewhere in the middle is safe. would i recommend it? perhaps for overnighters.
A Truly Italian Delight
My husband fell in love with this place on arrival. After a fairly gruelling journey out on Ryan Air (no surprise and our fault for booking with them), we were some three hours later than our expected ETA. Rather than rushing us through registration, we were taken out to the terrace to enjoy the sunset and a drink on the house. It was just what we needed. We booked half board as I’m Gluten Free and we needed to be sure that I could get a meal without issue. On my first morning I was met by the head of the restaurant, Pino, who was a delight. They’d bought an enormous wealth of GF products (muffins, bread sticks, biscuits, cakes, cereal and much more), lots of which I’ve not purchased or eaten in years. I was told to ‘help myself, not to wait, the cabinet was mine!’ I will only go on about the food a little longer, but I was concerned with visiting Italy, being a gluten dependent cuisine. However, Pino and his team couldn’t have done more. On the days we ate in the restaurant, we picked from the set-menus in advance .. my favourite dish was a GF Calzone! I’ve not had one since I was diagnosed GF over 10 years ago, so this was incredible! Claudio (the chef) out did himself at every turn creating GF versions of the set meals. Pino was the mastermind and nothing was too much trouble. Within two days, Gigi (Giovanni), our waiter would bring me fresh fruit for breakfast - wonderful white fleshed peaches and fresh figs brought in from Pino’s garden. What can I say?? The personal service and care from Pino and his team where extraordinary! We loved our trip and stay, particularly our nightly chats in SpanItalLish with Angelo (to any Brit who’s watched Faulty Towers, he would be known as Manuel), his daughter, Manuela who served us nightly using Google Translate when we struggled to find words to complete the conversation. We were welcomed like family by all the staff, as well as the guests who return year-on, year-out in August. We were the only Brits (foreigners) during our stay, the hotel was full with Italians, which was magnificent. Most of the staff have some sort of family connection, uncles, cousins, sisters and best friends. Those relationships keep this hotel truly Italian and they’re all so clued up to support their guest. Gianluca recommended a number of delicious restaurants during our stay. He’d ring ahead and book for us being clear about my food allergies, and the moment we’d arrive, we’d be swooped up and taken on as part of an extended family visit. My husband delighted in watching the boats in the Marina which you could see from the terrace. It was a lovely harbour - busy, crazy and lots of manoeuvres that make your heart pound whilst the air whooshed from your lungs in surprise that nothing crashed! The rooms where lovely and cleaned .. simple and did the job. If I had one criticism, the beds/mattresses didn’t connect, and so we were either some distance from each other or one of us was falling down the crack! Teresa was our lovely cleaner and she did a wonderful job, as I’m far from tidy! Overall, a wonderful hotel but beware the food .. it’s so good that I put on 2kilos during my stay!!
Just stay here. You won't find better in Ischia.
Position 9/10: The hotel has mainly two views, one on the sea and one on Monte Epomeo, both are beautiful and you are happy either way. High on a hill hence the amazing view, 3min from the beach, 2min from bus stops and 5min from the port of Casamicciola. PERFECT. Hotel 8/10: rooms are neat, The restaurant is very spacious, the terrace is what you are longing for. The piscine is clean, the Jacuzzis are marvellously positioned. the terme are well maintained. PERFECT. The Food 9/10: I did not put 10/10 just because it will seem fake. but the food is absolutely delicious. Creative menu that changes everyday. My favorites: - coniglio all'ischitana (typical dish of ischia) - Calzone - insalata in crosta di parmigiano - Il crespella ai funghi porcini su crema di formaggio Try these dishes, and thank me later. The staff 10/10: now here I really can't but give a full mark because these people are the nicest, most generous, attentive, helpful, informed, professional staff I have ever encountered. A big thanks to Gigi, Angelo, Pasqualino and the Maestro Giovanni who delivered a perfect service (I am sorry if I did not include all the names, but all were great). This of course could not have been possible without the eye and the control of the maître d'hôtel Pino. Thanks to all. We will be back.
Beautiful relax in Casamicciola
Very nice Hotel in a the beautiful Ischia island in the little town of Casamicciola Terme. The rooms are nice and quiet; we preferred the ones on the sea side, overlooking the harbour. The restaurant serves very good food, excellent viriety and and quality. The service is accurate and the staff very helpful. Good for couples, families and older people.
