Excellent food in the tavern
Opinión escrita el 10 de Julio de 2021
My wife and I had a very nice dinner in the tavern, where we have dined before but had forgotten how good the food can be! The crab cake appetizer was very nicely done, as was my beef on kummelwick. This was not exactly the "beef on wick" I grew up with in western New York--it was better! Nice tender slices of sirloin served with a tasty dipping sauce. My wife had the stir fried vegetables and crusted tuna, which was also very good. We topped it off with the flourless dark chocolate cake, which was very tasty. The service was good, if a bit rushed, but it was busy and our waitress was doing her best to keep up. Overall, a great, casual place to go for a nice meal!
Note: we did not stay at the hotel/inn.
One night while visiting Colgate
Opinión escrita el 23 de Junio de 2021
My daughter and I stayed in this hotel for one night when we were on a recent college tour trip. We were in the area to visit Colgate University. Lincklaen House is about a 25 minute drive up some lovely country roads to get to Colgate. This hotel is so quaint and historic and it's located on a great little main street. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who was genuinely happy to be there and was incredibly nice. We received keys to our room (yes, actual keys)! and headed up to the 2nd floor. I don't think there are elevators (not that I saw anyway) so that is something to be aware of but she did immediately ask if we needed help with our bags (we didn't but appreciated the offer).
The room we were in had 2 double beds and was comfortable. The only 2 things I'd mention about the room that might be good to know is, since this is an old building there are not many outlets for charging phones/computers, etc. We unplugged a lamp so we could charge a phone. The other thing is that the windows only have blinds and no curtains. I like my room to be dark so that the sun doesn't wake me up in the morning. That being said, the blinds are very sold and did a pretty good job of blocking out the light, it just wasn't totally dark. Also, you do hear street noise but it didn't really bother me except for a couple of loud trucks that went by over night. We had a window A/C unit that kept our room comfortable so that was nice.
We ate dinner at the attached pizza place (the Tavern was closed). Apparently the tavern, pizza place and restaurant in the hotel can all serve from the same menu so that was nice for us. We were able to charge our food to the room. They had a continental breakfast in the morning and because of covid, there were limited items. They did have fruit, yogurt, english muffins, juice, milk, coffee. You could sit in the small eating area or take it out on the pretty little outdoor patio but it was too cold and rainy for us to do that.
Overall a great stay and a great price. We wished we had more time there to explore the hotel and the town. I would definitely stay again if we're in the area.
Nice but a little disappointed

Hotel is pretty, room was nice but very warm with no actual temperature control. No screens so could not open windows for relief. Also no fridge in the room which was difficult for me as I need insulin and it has to be refrigerated. My ice packs only lasted so long so I wound up losing almost a full insulin pen as I had no way to keep it cold.
Beautiful, historic inn

We loved the location of this inn (right downtown). It is lovely inside, lots of nice historical details. The staff was very polite and friendly, but could be better trained. When we checked in I had to ask where the room was, and about breakfast. I was never told that there was no housekeeping due to covid. When we checked out I was not asked how my stay was.
The room was very large (king Jacuzzi suite) and we appreciated having the living room/kitchen. The room has a kitchen but there were no plates (only 4 bowls) and no dish soap or any sponge or dish towel, and no way to clean up the kitchen or clean dishes. One pot was provided, it had a loose handle. The room has no curtains, only blinds. The reason this is an issue is that the bedroom looks out over a patio with bright lights on until 2am, and it's so bright in the bedroom you could read a book. Curtains would really help. The shower is odd in that there is no soap dish or shelf for soap or shampoo, so you have to put your soap on the floor of the shower. Women, note that conditioner is not provided, only shampoo.
Covid protocols were observed and we felt safe while we were there. The breakfast is nice and well provisioned.
This hotel is lovely and the location is superb. But there are some small things that could bring it from good to excellent, and they aren't costly or difficult, just need some attention to detail.
Special Birthday Weekend

Perfection and grace circa 1835 with all the modern necessities. Our Queen Jacuzzi Suite was beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. Wallpaper, wood floors, period perfect furniture - not your chain hotel. The staff was unfailingly pleasant and accommodating to our needs. We enjoyed time in the lobby, the atrium, and the tavern. Everyone we encountered, either guest or staff, seemed to be at home. And the location is ideal, central in town, not far from everything else the area has to offer.
