Too Expensive for What'cha Get - Small Parking Area
Reviewed 8 August, 2021
I left late on a trip and was forced to search for a hotel along the way. I used Hotels.com and was quite surprised at hotel costs along Interstate 81. The cheapest option with a publisized Covid clean policy was the Holiday Inn Express in Christiansburg....8pm arrival at $218. Upon arrival, I found that the parking lot could not handle a pickup truck pulling a 6 x 12 U-Haul. I wound up parking parallel and taking 4 parking places. I walked inside and had to wait for an obnoxious woman, with no access to a smart phone, monopolize the lone young desk clerk over the location of the nearest liquor store. When told three times how to find the Virginia ABC, which was 4 miles away, she finally decided she'd drink beer and swaggered away. I finally was able to check in. The kid was friendly. As I made my way to my room, I passed a guy in the hall who was waiting outside the laundry room. As I passed a maid appeared with an armload of sheets. Apparently the man's bed was made up with no sheets. Not a good sign. My room was not that clean, the waste baskets had no liners, but my bed had sheets. I found the room to be poorly lit despite 5 light fixtures; the floor lamp had no bulb. Towels were clean and the shower water pressure was fantastic. Bed was comfortable and appeared clean. The morning breakfast was fairly standard and quite bland....fruit unripe, egg omlettes filled with Cheez-Whiz, etc. Coffee may have been perked with pool water. Don't get your hopes up if you anticipate flavorful coffee. In the future, I will attempt to reserve rooms ahead of time instead of getting a room online while rolling down the highway.
Yes, you should stay here.

What a beautiful hotel. The rooms are large, clean, beds are comfortable. The indoor pool was wonderful after a long road trip. The breakfast is outstanding (my favorite part). Hot sausages, scrambled eggs, fruit, cereal, pancakes, the works... Great stay and we will return.
Great Staff, Crappy Experience

We specifically chose a hotel with a microwave and refrigerator so we'd be able to cook some quick small meals in our room as we were arriving a littler later in the evening and leaving early the next morning to go hiking and be gone most of the day. When we arrived and got in our room we found that the microwave did not work. We called the front desk around 9pm and they assured us they'd figure something out. It was midnight when we called them back and they said that they did not have a spare microwave and that they could switch our room the next day at our convenience. The issue with that is that we'd only be able to do this early in the morning before people have checked out of their room (they were apparently booked up) or later in the evening when we returned again after everyone had checked in again. We decided to just go to the breakfast area to see if they had one in the morning and they did not have one WE could use. We left and went on our hiking trip and returned later that evening to find the items we had in the fridge were just cool, not cold and there was no adjustment knob on the fridge, it had been removed. We went out for a late dinner and a movie and returned around 11pm to find that our keys did not work. We wen to the front desk where they reprogrammed them and we tried them again and they did not work. We returned to the front desk where another more experienced employee programmed them and we tried again, they did not work. The employee went to our room with us and we demonstrated that neither key was working so he used his master key which did work. He said he'd have maintenance fixt he issue in the morning and they did. I should also mention that the ice maker on the 3rd floor did not work and there was no ice maker on the 4th or 2nd floors (I checked).
We were always greeted well by staff and they were apologetic to the situation but said that since we pre-paid there was nothing monetarily they could do without contacting the GM. I'm not sure why they didn't just call the GM. I suppose that will be the last time we pre-pay. It's a shame and extremely unfortunate for customers that the staff's hands were tied to give any type of a credit when these situations arise and people have pre-paid.
A fine stay

Everything about the hotel is fine.
Check in had clean pens, plexi and buckets for hotel keys when you check out to be cleaned. Unfortunately the woman who checked us in did not have a mask on and went around the plexi to hand and accept items from us.
Hotel was clean, shower was hot and the fridge was cold! The bed was comfy and pillows were not flat.
Breakfast was all prepackaged. Someone needed to make my coffee upon request.
Overall it was a fine stay. Good location off the highway.
Not up to standards

Kevin was wonderful at check-in. He helped to figure out the best room so I could see my vehicle; he was friendly and welcoming. The room was a disappointment. The covid response was inconcsistent. Most staff did not wear masks, but they did not have a pen or paper in the room, which they said was due to touching it when a guest would touch everything. After a day of travel in a hotel that did not look busy, there was only lukewarm water and the water pressure was very low. The shower head was fine for me, but anyone taller would have an issue, since it was not very high. The toilet seat was loose and moved around. The fixtures in the bathroom had quite a bit of rust on them. The gentleman at check out in the morning was neither helpful nor pleasant. I would not recommend at this time.
