We stayed a few nights at hercor hotel. Room was small compared to what I'm used to but staff was very friendly. Room was clean and close to place we go to. Love eating across the street at tacos el gordo
This hotel is terrible. They have horrible guest service nothing is like in the pictures. They allow calls to be connected to your room without any form or caller ID or accountability. I got the most horrific phone call within minutes of getting into bed. I’ll spare the details but I immediately felt unsafe and uncomfortable to even go to sleep. I called the front desk only to be told that they don’t have control over who calls and that “sometimes when people call the hotel they can just dial your room number” now I’ve called this hotel 4+ times and that has never been an option. I went back to the desk in the morning only to be greeted by the assistant manager who gave me the same run around. I asked to be refunded for the remainder of my stay and the assistant manager has no qualifications to refund me and the manager is uncontactable. This hotel is a pathetic excuse for a motel your better off staying at a motel 6.
I would not stay here again
I stayed here on 1 of the 3 weekends I had to be in Chula Vista for a class. The hotel is in a not great part of town. The rooms have paper-thin walls/windows, so you can hear every little noise from outside. I will say that the front desk staff was very friendly, and so was the employee working in the continental breakfast room. (The breakfast was disappointing.) For this price point, I think there are better options in town.
Profiting from Corona
Let me start by saying I do not post reviews on a regular basis so this was hard for me to do as I own my own business. With Covid-19 we have been impressed with the effort everyone is making to work with people. Unfortunately, the Hercor Hotel is seeking to profit from the virus. Please understand that I called as soon as I knew my 75 year old mother was directed not to travel by the CDC because of her age. When I called to cancel the reservation, more than 24 hours ahead, I was told it was within 48 hours of arriving and thus too late. I asked that they not charge me the 1 nights penalty ($169) given the situation. I was told by 2 front desk clerks across numerous calls from me (they were nice) that they were not allowed to do refunds, those had to go though the manager. They left several messages for the manager but I never received a call back. On the 6th call, they were finally able to connect me with the manager so he could tell me they were only refunding for people that were banned from traveling to the United States. In other words, this business was willing to refund money to someone from China or any other country before taking care of our own citizens who were recommended not to fly. Towards the end of my call with the manager I asked him to contact their corporate office to be sure he had their procedures correct. He said he was willing to do that and assured me he would call back the same day to let me know what he found out. Once again, I never got a call back. I would definitely steer clear of this hotel because of their lack of care & consideration in this trying time. Their policies and money matter more than our citizens. How many ways can I say disappointing.
Non refundable....never again!
A) I booked the non refundable room with my eyes wide open However I booked back on January 8 when the pandemic was not even discussed outside of China. B) my attempts to alter my reservation began on March 11th as I realized cities including San Diego were in the process of shutting down. First I called the hotel, unfortunately, after the cutoff for any changes. The hotel told me to call BOOKING.COM. With the phone lines backed up and a very long wait,I called back on the morning of the 12th. To make matters even more fun, I had to change my flight out of San Diego. First I tried for a Monday, March 16th flight. Finally I obtained a Sunday March 15th flight...with NO CHANGE FEES. When I finally talked to Booking.com, explaining the situation, they tossed it back to the HERCOR Hotel, requesting that the hotel manager waive the policy and only charge me for the two nights I actually stayed. C) At the hotel the clerk kept leaving the desk to consult with the hotel manager. The decision was the 4 night rate was iron clad and that was what I would be charged. BTW, I NEVER saw or spoke with the hotel manager. I left on Sunday, March 15th as I thought it would be better to get home in case the government limited domestic flights. In lieu of the crisis we are facing these days I don't think it would have been to big of a stretch to waive the policy and take care of the customers need. So, I liked the hotel but am very doubtful I would stay there on my next trip to San Diego. I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel or using Booking.com.
