Nothing Fancy
Don't expect anything fancy here. This is very much a basic, no frills choice that is clean and functional. It is simply a place to stay, nothing more or less. The room was big but very spartan and in some need of an update. It included a kitchenette (microwave, fridge and a very limited number of utensils) which we didn't have a need for but could be useful for anyone staying longer than a few days. The location is excellent, right on the main pedestrian shopping street and a few minutes walk to the old town and a number of eating/drinking options. The breakfast choices are surprisingly good. As well as all the usual South American continental options and an array of cakes there is scrambled egg and a range of fruits (watermelon, banana & papaya). Unfortunately no toaster. We stayed in more highly rated places that didn't offer nearly as much. Don't expect views. Our room only looked out onto other internal walls.
Cols and spartan
This is an "Apartment Hotel", meaning that our room had a kitchenette with fridge (not working), a microwave, and a table and chairs. With no dishes or cutlery, and only a single cup and a single glass, we were not going to be doing much cooking. Not were we going to spend much time in the room, which was cold and spartan. The view from our window was a roof. On the plus side, they supplied a good breakfast, the wifi worked, and the location could not be better. They also let us into the rooms soon after we arrived at 8 am after an overnight bus trip. This hotel was one of over 20 places that we stayed in during a 7-week, South American holiday. Each was booked and paid for by the tour company that we were travelling with. Therefore, I am unable to say anything about the prices of whether the hotels were good value for money. The reader will have to rely on other travellers for that information.
Ideal for business and longer stays
An apartment hotel in a pedestrian street in downtown Curitiba. For 150 R$ I was given a spacious suite, with a reasonably equipped kitchenet. Clean but a little bit rundown, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was ok, the personnel very nice. Car parking was provided for 15 R$ per day. I did not use wifi but a friend who did said it worked fairly well. Considering the location and the price, it has been a good buy. However the rooms need renovations.
Simple, affordable, basic, clean - what more do you want?
I spent a month in Curitiba for work. Having a fridge and a microwave is essential unless you want to eat out every night. The only meal served was breakfast, and this was reasonable, although the menu remained unchanged for the whole month that I was there, with only the large selection of cakes changing regularly. This is a simple hotel near the centre of town on a relatively quiet street, but with no frills. My room was quite large (in fact it was a small apartment with an open-plan lounge-kitchenette, a bedroom and a bathroom). The bedroom had a TV with several channels, didn't bother to look as I was busy with work. The bed was comfortable, but instead of sheets and blankets, it would have been much nicer with a duvet. The shower had a strong hot water supply. The kitchenette had a microwave, a fridge and some basic crockery and cutlery. It would have been nice if there had been a couple of pyrex dishes with lids and a kettle. If I need to return to Curitiba for work over an extended period, I will probably return here. Not the place I would recommend to a honeymoon couple, or young people looking to go out in the evenings, for them, a nice hotel in or around Batel would be more adequate.
Central location & spacious
Right in the centre of Curitiba, spacious rooms with kitchenette and dining areas and great showers. We were able to buy a few beers from reception and have some drinks in the rooms as well which wasn't a problem for them. Check out the chocolate shop on the same street for an afternoon indulgent snack.
