A shame

Reviewed 21 november, 2022

Me and my mum were looking forward to this for months! to then be told our room had a leak and we were then downgraded rooms. My mum was disappointed. We then got to the room and the heating wasn’t working there was no bottle opener in the room for any of the drinks in the mini bar compared to our room we stayed in months before which was half the price, next day we were out and came back and room still wasn’t serviced not that it bothers me to much all I wanted was some more coffee and toilet roll! Then after we went back out and came back it had been done although… we had no door breakfast sign or whisky compliments and the mini bar was not topped back up. We also didn’t get a good sleep because of alarms going after 1 o’clock and room being freezing:(. It is just all very upsetting because we absolutely loved our last time there but unfortunately don’t think we will be back!

Beautiful Hotel, but very disappointed.

My room was lovely, beautiful views over Edinburgh to the Castle and Scott Monument. Very overpriced in my opinion, definitely not worth nearly £400 a night i paid. No offer of help with luggage - either on arrival or check out - lift to Level 0 wasnt working so i was advised to take lift to Level 1 and go down the fire escape to get to Waverley. Obviously i didnt and went the long way round over North Bridge and onto Princes Street. Asked for fresh milk on 4 separate occasions, got it twice and the final time i asked for it at 20:15 - when it arrived at 21:30 the gentleman told me he'd been up earlier but the Do Not Disturb sign on illuminated - interestingly i had on put the do not disturb sign on at 21:25 as i had given up waiting. I waited at reception on the saturday evening to request some milk for my coffee and the receptionist busy messaging on Whats App for a good 5 minutes before she realised i was there... and she really didn't seem bothered i'd been waiting. Mini Bar/Fridge didnt seem to be working and wasnt fully stocked - mentioned this at reception and was told they are probably out of stock on things...I did take photos in case i was charged... To top off my stay someone was smoking in the hotel so at 1am the fire alarms went off (Not the hotel's fault). Staff acted quickly to advise it was a false alarm and were helpful (this is the only positive i can say - Lewis who was on night shift was great) Had a meal at The Grand Cafe - food was ok but definitely overpriced and staff seemed to find it difficult to understand i was a lone female guest. I don't often take any notice of Hotel reviews but i have learnt the hard way on this trip. Scotsman Hotel staff definitely need some customer service training.

Beautiful yet mediocre

Reviewed 16 november, 2022

The hotel is a beautiful building inside and out. My room was immaculate, not to mention dark and silent. I was only there to sleep, so can't really comment on much else. However, everyone seems to be complaining about the staff, and they are right. There was one person on the desk at busy checkin times, with a queue forming in the very limited space in the lobby. Nobody was serving in the bar, so I ended up going to Pret for lunch. I checked out 12 hours ago and the emailed invoice I was promised still hasn't arrived.

Nice hotel. Pity about the staff

Lovely hotel, but staff not very interested. We met family there and thought it would be nice to enjoy a drink in the bar area called The Hide, but no staff were present. We asked twice if someone could serve us, but after waiting 40 minutes we decided to go somewhere else and informed the reception why we were leaving. We got the usual “I can only apologise”. The Restaraunt was a totally different experience though. Very attentive staff, and the food was amazing.

Disappointing gift

Reviewed 11 november, 2022

This was a Christmas gift for my mother and partner due to covid and train strikes it’s taken time to set up a date. The gift was for the cinema experience followed by dinner in the hotel. On the way up on the train they received a call to say the were unable to get the film they had booked to see no alternative give, they spent the afternoon killing time in Edinburgh until it was time for the dinner booking it was a wet day and they are elderly. The Dinner experience was fabulous the setting the meal and the staff they couldn’t praise more I’m just so disappointed that they have to go back for the cinema experience on rearranged date it was meant to be a lovely afternoon film followed by dinner.
