Luxury in an intimate setting

Reviewed 5 october, 2022

Karawan Riad was one of the most special places I've stayed experienced across all my travels. Luxurious without being ostentatious, intimate with friendly service, and an oasis. From the breakfasts, to the reading room, and the rooms and spaces themselves, all fantastic. The spa staff, including the masseuse Lamiae and the other woman who does the hammam are also top quality. The rest of the staff is also incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to reunite us with several items that we left behind during out stay.

Highest standards while somehow feeling like you’re staying with friends

I’m not sure which was more impressive, the amazing interior design, or the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. This boutique hotel deserves are all of the praise it gets in the reviews - from the breakfast and dinner to the hammam and massage (Lamaie), to the 5 star tours they arrange, it’s what you are looking for in perfect bookends to your days in Fes.

A rare gem nested in the beautiful Medina of Fes!

Reviewed 9 september, 2022

If you crave to experience the beauty and uniqueness of the ancient tradition of Fes, Karawan Riad is the place. Karawan Riad is such an exquisite place! The service, food, décor, architecture, location , the spa with its traditional hammam, and more importantly the people, are incredible. We were welcomed with such warmth by the Karawan Riad family. Prior to our arrival, I have liaised with Karawan Riad Management and reservation team for a car booking from Casablanca to Fes, and then from Fez to Merzouga and Marrakech. The team immediately responded to my car arrangement. We exchanged several emails as I was trying to see how best I could organize my trip, taking that I did not have too many days at disposal. The management and the reservation team where very prompt in responding to my emails. We were picked up timely in Casablanca by our guide, Nourdine. We spent two nights at the Riad and then we headed to Merzouga for a night and then to Marrakech. The team at Karawan Riad organized everything for us: pick ups, drop offs from/to hotels, camel ride, a night sleep in the tent, with dinner and breakfast included, in the Saharan's desert. We travelled more than 1,300 km with Nourdine throughout Morocco. Spending three days on the road with Nourdine was truly a gift. We were so fortunate to have Nourdine as our guide - a very professional, kind, patient, beautiful human being. Our room at the Riad was beautifully designed with unique pieces: a blend of the Moroccan and French/modern fusion. From our room we could exit into a small terrace with a fountain and flowers. Such an oasis! The Riad has a beautiful Moroccan tea room, an amazing library with unique artwork, a cozy restaurant, and serene spa, a peaceful inner courtyard and a magical terrace with magnificent view of Fes. The food is exceptional and the people at the Riad are extremely accommodating and very courteous and professional. Karawan Riad is truly unique and so dear to my heart! I cannot wait to go back!

Karawan Riad - A GREAT riad in Fes, Morocco

Reviewed 19 july, 2022

We just finished a trip to Fes and stayed at the Karawan Riad. It was FANTASTIC. The riad was beautiful, the staff was exceptional, and the additional services (e.g., pickup from the airport, guides to tour the medina, transportation to Marrakesh) were all handled without issue and very efficiently. Even when we had an issue with the less than sufficient cooling of our room (which was not shocking given the July temperatures), Otmane and the staff took care of the problem and helped us move to another room.

Terribly disappointed

Reviewed 12 july, 2022

Ah where should I begin.... Upon stepping into the hotel, we could smell the horrible odour coming from the tannery. We wanted to use the bathtub in our room for a bath. There was an issue and it needed fixing. Also the a floor tile near the bathtub was broken. We didn't know it and stepped on it. The broken tile flipped up and could have cut us. The reason given by staff was the previous guest broke it and they didn't have the time to fix it before our arrival. Well then we should have been told to be careful or just don't let guests stay in that room till it is fixed? When we told the sales manager about the issues with the bathtub and broken tile, he gave lots of excuses, that we didn't know how to use the bathtub and if we are sure the broken tile is in our room and not outside the room. Very unprofessional and the way he talked was quite condescending. I had to film the broken tile IN the room to prove that I was telling the truth. Hairdryer was also damaged. No house slippers in the room. Hotel said that they do not have a fixed menu in their restaurant. Completely understand but nobody told us the price of each meal at all! The worse situation was when my Mother asked one of their staff, Simehed, if he spoke English, to help us with a situation. He blatantly lied and said no. 2 minutes later he was speaking perfect English to another guest behind us. First of all, you never lie to your guests. Second of all, it is just a poor reflection on your hotel and you are known as a five-star hotel. After our stay, I called the hotel asking for the contact details of the General Manager as I was furious with Simehed's behaviour. The guy who answered said he didn't know his GM's contact details. How can you not know your GM's contact in a hotel?? After that, he said he was busy and had things to do and hung up on me. He continued to hang up on me two more times and after that didn't even bother picking up the phone. Karawan Riad, your hotel may have a five-star interior, but I wouldn't even give one star for your staff service. I've stayed in many hotels around the world and yours has the worst service. Very disappointing! You may want to retrain your staff or get better ones. The only person who helped us a lot during our stay there was a staff named Nezha. She was very professional and sympathetic to our distress and she deserves to be commended for it. And because of her, I decided not to give one star.
