A lovely, peaceful relaxing location • Highly recommended

We found the beautiful La Casa Grande Del Valle when we were forced to stay for a couple of nights when we had breakdown on our way to Santander to catch the ferry. Situated in a sleepy village a 10 min taxi ride from Bembibre, La Casa Grande Del Valle is a haven of peace and tranquility. Everything was spotlessly clean. Isabel, our host was kind and attentive. I would happily return despite the distance for a few nights peace a quiet. Indeed, because my partner does not fly and I do not fancy the drive - nor the costs of the ferry!- I am looking in to the idea of traveling there by train. One slight negative - the stone courtyard is very uneven. We just trod carefully!

Relaxing

Reviewed 19 september, 2018

Totally recommended. If you need to relax on a hot summer day, this is the place for you. An old stone house recently renovated, rooms are simple but comfortable and clean. There is a garden with a small swimming pool where you can lie and just enjoy the quiet. There is also a "game room" with some books and table games. We had dinner there, the food is simple but very tasty. The owner is gracious and helpful. Just a side note: the house is set in a tiny village (like 100 people), the town is a 10 minutes drive away, so if you're looking for a place for partying, this is not what you want :D

Great - and a swimming pool to boot!

a bit out of the way but that is what we wanted - Isabel cooked up a meal for us in the evening which meant that we could do some more relaxing - really nice place to stay and good to be in an authentic old building

Pool shut

It's an ok place. Very old with character. However no air con and although it advertised a swimming Pool, it was closed. Not a lot of good if you want a swim. Very pleasant owner though. No evening food available so had to travel to town a few miles away.

Very pleasant accommodation in a small Bierzo village

Reviewed 9 april, 2016

We booked three rooms (five adults and one child) over Easter 2016. As a family group we were pleasantly surprised to see that they were slightly apart from the rest, behind one common door. The whole site was brand new so everything was in perfect state. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a mix of traditional and modern style; bathrooms with showers. The beds were comfortable and there is a kettle in each room to make tea. Two of the rooms were not very big, though still adequate, but we didn't spend that long indoors (considering those travelling with children we would perhaps suggest one of the rooms to have twin beds). There is a game room; a bit chilly at this time of the year, though, and perhaps requiring a bit more lighting. We would suggest a sitting table in the middle, besides the coffee table, so table games could be played more comfortably. There will be a small swimming pool for the summer. The breakfast is varied (breads, cheese, jam, muffins and other sweets, yogurts, fruit, jams, honey, torrijas (typical for Easter), fresh orange juice (so few places offer it!), and excellent coffee choices. Isabel, the owner, provides helpful advice about places to trek, to visit or to eat in the area. You can also order very generous sandwiches to take away the next day.
