location is fine, 8 minutes walk to station, airportbus in front of the hotel wooden floor, and a big, larger than avg bath, which was nice no aircon, central heating, room got very hot staff was a bit lacklustre about this, got offered a fan ... in the land of Shinkansen and paying 100 euro for the room, I got offered a fan ... no sound-proofing bfast LO is 8:45 ... a more relaxed bfast option is Royal Host, out the door to the right 2 blocks, opposite the park

Good Value at City Center

We had a pleasant stay at Sutton Hotel when we recently visited Fukuoka for 2 nights. The hotel room was big enough for 2 people, the price is super low when we booked it, good amenities and it's located right in the center of Hakata. The front desk staff were all nice and accommodating. Free wi-fi, toiletries, clean towels are provided. I'll stay here again once I'm back in Fukuoka.

Awesome location and very helpful staff

Reviewed 13 june, 2019

I stayed for 4 nights in this hotel and tried both standard double room and family suite. I will definitely recomment this hotel to family traveler, it has a good location for transport like buses to airport/ attractions and just 8 mins walk from JR Hakata station. I would like to thank you Kim from front desk, there are 2 sofa beds in the family suite room, it was q. Tight as the house keeping opened them all in my room, it was about 9pm which the house keeping staff already off duty, and he just replied I should be able to fold back for you. And a moment later, he came to our room and did it for us. He is for sure an assets of Sutton hotel.I hope the management can see this comment.

Generally a satisfactory stay but have rooms for improvement

Reviewed 27 december, 2018

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in our recent trip to Fukuoka. The hotel is located within a 10min walk from Hakata Station (nearest station exits, west 21 or 24), that is very convenient. Also, there are several convenience stores, eateries, cafes etc around. And from here, Hakata Canal City is about 12~15 mins walk. So would say the location is accessible and centralized. The hotel, however, is quite dated, from its outlook and of course it's layout, decor and physical way. While most hotels are already using card access technology, it still uses the metal key. Our room was 606, would say was fine based on Japanese standard (but our rooms in Hiroshima few days back and in Osaka, was much bigger), in terms of size. But the bathroom was spacious, with a bathtub too. Flooring was wooden throughout, quite unique. Beds were fine but pillows were too soft. So we had to pile 2 together so as to better support our heads. Aircon was not working properly despite turning to the full blast (we even saw guests from the other rooms requesting/getting desktop fans from the reception), so we had to open the windows, that was far more cooling than it. There was no cabinet but just a metal rod for you to hang your clothings. While room service was well done and all used items were replenished, there were only 3 sachets of green tea allocated "pathetically", without bottles of mineral water or coffee, surprisingly, unlike all other hotels we have stayed in Japan thus far. Wifi connection was stable and fast, without the need of password. Breakfast at the cafe. Throughout our stay, the same items of food were presented, and nothing new. While, the food were generally satisfactory, choices were quite limited. And there were no fresh fruits too. Staff were generally friendly here. But what was interesting was that when you entered and presented the breakfast voucher to the staff, he would take a tray and place a plate and pass to you (while speaking in Japanese, asking you to collect your utensils at the side) and if you do not take the tray but move on to find a table, he would stare at you! That reminded me of my kindergarten or army days in military camp (or to some extent, quite similar to prison). While it's a nice gesture, it's also quite "authoritarian". Reception. Staff were generally friendly and could speak English and had no difficulty in communicating. As the checkin time was 3pm (standard in Japan), do not think they would allow you for early checkin (though in Hiroshima, that hotel allowed that) but you can keep your luggage with the concierge. So overall, our stay was satisfactory but it could be better (especially when we had experienced a much better, 5-star service just days before in Hiroshima).

Best location ever

During my most recent in Hakata I stayed in Sutton Hotel Hakata City. The hotel room was neat and clean, although a bit small. (This is expected in Japan anyway). It just took less than 10 minutes to walk to Hakata station / Canal city, and those were easy walk. It fit my schedule very well since I used the JR pass to visit multiple regions in Kyushu. I must commit that the location is close to perfect. Highly recommended.
