More about the hotel
Even better than the photos
Even better than the photos show, this play blew us away. Beautiful hand-worked wood fixtures throughout, unparalleled views of central Guanajuato, breakfast served on our private terrace. It just doesn't get any better. Located up a charming network of pedestrian streets, Casa Dionisio also has super accommodating staff and good rates.
Amazing View of Guanajuato City
Beautiful hotelito. Would stay again. The feel was luxurious enough without being at a huge resort. The views are incredible. 2 issues: Continental breakfast is included in your stay but since it is a small hotel, you need to be diligent about arranging it to be ready when you want it. We asked for it to be ready at a certain time and location and it was not. If you want a warm breakfast, you need to pay in advance and we did not know that either. We messaged the owner and he didn't credit us but promised to take care of us next time we stay. Since we do want to stay there again, I guess that is okay resolution, but a bit delayed as we don't know when we will go back. The spa bathtub did not work, but it was too late to have it fixed and we were only staying one night, so wasn't worth the trouble to get it fixed. These issues were not major to me, because the views and comfort of the room and bed really made it all worth it to us.
Lovely, Great Views, Some Challenges
Boutique hotel. Had small single room on terrace level. 3 other rooms for couples a floor below. Spectacular views, very friendly staff. Owner has room on site. Good value. Knew no direct auto access, they help with luggage. Not for anyone out of shape or with heart/lung problems. Good value. Really want to give it 4 stars...but: Room was dingy, not super clean, single bath towel less plush than Motel 6. Maid service not great. Learned day 2 supposed to get small bottle of water daily- delivered 1 of 4 days. Zero English capability. I speak enough Spanish to get by ...but frustrating at times.
Superb Little Gem on the Hill
Yes, you can ONLY walk to this place and the stairs are not evenly spaced. It is however part of Guanajuato's charm - it's pedestrian aspect. As a boutique hotel (a handful of rooms) you receive a lot of attention. Great food, beautiful view, fairly quiet place (hard to find in Guanajuato). Very knowledgeable staff who can direct you to various experiences around the city (food, drink, museum, art, music, hike, etc.). About once a month the host receives some talented musicians for an evening concert (free to the guests of the hotel but a small fee for others) a wonderful way to support the arts. The place is well taken care of but the alley to it can be a little 'scary' in the dark. Although Guanajuato is considered quite safe, some wouldn't walk here alone in the dark - something to ponder (hence my 4 instead of 5 stars).
Well worth the climb
A gem of a property. Hard to get to--you have to climb a steep slope to get to it. No car could drop you off up there despite what Google says. If you can call the property to have them meet you at the bottom and help with luggage. The facility is immaculate and the view is spectacular. Karina is very helpful.
