A good over night stop
The hotel was fine, spaceous clean rooms, overlooking the sea with good views of the coast and a very friendly and helpful receptionist. The only minor inconvenience was that breakfast was served in another hotel across the street. I would certainly stay there again.
Beer and internet cards
This is the place to visit in Baracoa if you want a drink, internet cards and (if I remember correctly) wifi. The under-cover ground-floor outdoor bar looks out over the Atlantic and you don't need to join the long queues at other places to buy an internet card, or pay more than the going rate (2 CUC per card for an hour's online access). The bar staff is friendly, the beer cold, the view great - all making for a pleasant hour (or more) while getting online.
La Rusa is now closed...
Upon arrival in Baracoa, we found La Rusa in bad disrepair. No hot water, ac not working, and plumbing in semi working order. After one night they transferred us to another hotel, and permantly closed the hotel. The staff was fantastic, friendly, honest, and caring. Nelson, in particular was wonderful the new hotel was very nice, and we were well taken care of. We loved Baracoa and the wonderful people.
Stayed by mistake but we are not sorry
We arrived in Baracoa in the middle of a very stormy afternoon and as we did not have an arranged accomodation I was very happy to get a room in this hotel. It is some 35 CUC breakfast included. Hotel itself is named after a Russian lady who used to run it decades ago. There is one room on the top floor where Che Guevara stayed for a couple of nights. The hotel is run by military as the one opposite to it. It did not have any major refurbishment done in ages but is relatively very clean and comfortable. Also the fooc is cheap and the staff more then friendly. I am usually pretty much into nice and modern hotels but this one was a surprise for me. It made us feel very relaxed and even had a wifi installed (4,50CUC per hour), so I would highly recommend it!
This hotel is awful... the room is really hold, the room small and the windows let the noise come in well the light in early morning so you cannot sleep. People around the hotel try tp ask you money for taking care your car...but they know all the staff in the hotel and it is like they try to push you all the time to give money for everything. Didn't like the people In the city...they try to catch the tourist to ask for money. City is nice in the day but a lot of prostitution in the night.
