Great value Hotel in excellent location.

Booked for stay for Hamburg marathon. Hotel was very clean, staff and breakfast were great. Yes it is not as fancy as a 4 or 5* hotel but we didn’t need fancy. We booked directly with the hotel and communication was excellent. Location is excellent, we managed to walk to most places and it was close to the marathon start/finish. My only criticism would be the sound proofing between rooms isn’t great.
Met all expectations

Stayed here recently for a visit to the Hamburg Staatsoper, a 5 minute walk away. Although the decor is slightly dated, this hotel is spotlessly clean and very welcoming. It is centrally located within walking distance of the shopping area, several decent restaurants and cultural attractions. It is also a very short walk from the excellent U Bahn at Stephansplatz, giving easy access to the airport and the more distant districts of this fascinating city. I found the best rates on the hotel website and the breakfast included in all rates is fine. Covid protections were good. Whilst the Alsterhof may not be the last word in luxury, it represents excellent value for money. It is a comfortable 3 star establishment at the upper end of that rating, and I will have no hesitation in booking here for any future visits to this fascinating city.

After two years, I returned to Hamburg and the Hotel Alster-Hof. I came here for opera / ballet (the Hamburg State Opera House is a five / ten minute walk away). As remembered, my 'single' room (not street-facing) was almost spacious by some European standards. The bed was comfortable. There was ample storage in a large wardrobe which included a personal safe. The minibar was reasonably priced. The choices for breakfast were more than enough for me ... hot and cold. And the staff ... each and every one was warmly welcoming, friendly and helpful. These are the reasons that I shall return again.
Uniquely furnished rooms, spacious breakfast area

This privately owned hotel is located near the Dammtor train station and Stephensplatz subway. Shops, restaurants, university in walking distance. After staying mostly in chain hotels, this was a pleasant change in decor. Had read reviews about their spacious rooms, and then even lucked out on what looked more like a junior suite w/walk-in closet an a lovely living-room-like area w/arm chairs, TV, minibar, etc. They didn't mention the term "upgrade" but maybe it was. Plenty of lamps throughout, firm mattress, very low noise level. Breakfast is a buffet on the 1st floor, generous space between tables, comfy chairs, decent selection of breads, rolls, cold cuts and sliced cheeses. Jams, butter, nutella, liver wurst and more are in small plastic containers. If you are up to a maritime touch to start you day, there's three types of marinated herring.
Nice, not to small hotel

Lovely. We got a nice big room. Clean and well maintained. A small terrace outside to enjoy the nice weather. We close to city center. 10 minutes walk, and tight next to the lake. Breakfast was excellent. Can recommend.
