AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !!! (READ IF YOU ARE FEMALE)
We were backpacking HKG, obviously this place is super cheap in comparison to other HKG hotels. Let me start by saying, we were 19 at the time, just two female travellers (twins). The building is not somewhere you want to be when you are female travellers. Most of the men in the building stare at you like you're nothing. Make comments as you walk past or follow you round the market of the building. Vendors constantly harass you as you enter and exit. We went up to the floor of this hotel. The two men at reception were extremely rude and intimidating. after saying they did not have our booking, I showed them my booking confirmation where my phone was snatched out my hand. We were then taken to another hostel in the block which was not what we booked. We were shown into a laughable sized room, even for backpackers this was amusing. Anyway it had the worst vibe and the men were awfully rude and intimidating, so we decided we wanted to leave. I went to reception to return the key, and I explained we did not want a refund or anything etc, where the men then started shouting at us. We were the only people in the corridor, waiting for the lift to come up. The men started to walk towards us shouting and waving their hands around, this all happened in slo mo in my mind, it was like something out of a movie as we watched the lift numbers chage, never waited so long for a lift haha!!! in all seriousness, it was incredibly scary at the time! Especially when you're young female travellers by yourself in a dodgy building with grown men shouting at you, We basically ran out the building then started laughing about it Please avoid this whole building if your females travelling alone, or even in groups.
BEWARE: No Call, No Show. Try other hostels instead.
We booked Lucky Hostel for our first night in Hong Kong. Our arrival in HK is at 10PM so we indicated the time of check-in on the booking through Agoda. We went around HK from the airport and decided to check in at 1AM. We went straight to the Chungking Mansions and were greeted by swarming hawkers offering a room accommodation. On the 12/F, a note was posted on the door to proceed to the 15/F or call a certain number. When we proceeded to 15/F and rang the doorbell, we were able to talk with a man and informed him of our booking that night. He pointed to the posted note on his door asking us to call the number. We have no sim card with us yet at that moment so we told him we cannot call. He told us to leave as he cannot help us then closed the door. We tried to call the number through the pay phones outside but couldn’t get through. It’s like the phone was purposely hung to not receive calls. It’s already 3AM, we’re tired, sleepy and still has no place to stay at. We were almost determined to spend the night at nearby McDonalds but luckily upon contacting Agoda, they were able to provide an alternative: to book any hotel nearby and they’ll refund the difference from the original booking. We got the room from Lucky Hostel at 270 HKD and a room from The Imperial Hotel for 900 HKD. We arrived on a Saturday and it’s expected to have most of the accommodations booked. We stayed in Mirador Mansions the following nights. The ground floor entrance is hawker-free and has officers regulating visitors—a much more secure place than Chungking.
You get what you pay for... really
So let me start out by saying that Hong Kong is VERY expensive and these rooms are very cheap. That being said there is a reason. This hostel in located in Chungking Mansion on Nathan street. If you are unfamiliar with how mansions in asia work, then this will be a shock to you. It is located in a much larger building that is broken into towers with close to 20 floors. You enter on the ground floor and have to go through crowds of people and businesses to get to the elevator for your tower. This includes many people trying to solicite or sell many different things to you. The chungking mansion in particular is infamous for its age and criminal activity. Keeping this in mind, if you are aware of your surrounding and smart, you will be fine. The guesthouse staff is fine, not overly kind but fine. They would commonly not be at the front desk but the rooms were clean and had a place to lay your head. They are very small and a bit sterile feeling and there is only a tiny window with no view. It does have wifi and some AC. I would not reconmend this hotel to any families with children or to women traveling alone (which I was). All in all though you'll be fine if you aren't dumb.
Terrible
First, I could say its location is great near shopping mall, at the MTR tsim sha tsui station, clean room and cheap. For the con: bad staffs, rude and not helpful. Building entrance is terrible, full of people who will approach to you all the time, Bad smell and singing at night. Lucky that we do not care but not recommend for who might come with family or only girls gang.
Little Hotel room but clean
The Lucky hostel one of the little hotel on Nathan road in Kowloon .. the hotel located on 13th floor of an apartment building.. the lift is so small.. the room is so small but very clean and near the MTR station and ladies market.. The hotel is very cheap we stay 2 nights for 50 HKD.. the owner is nice but he can't speak English. The hotel has good Wifi connection and free water. To get the hotel from the airport we can take bus A21 to Argyle Center and walk about 50mtr
