This place is average at best

I think a lot of people come to this place for the pool and the promise of prestige of it being a Marriott but in my stay I found the opposite. First off when you arrive there is a huge checkout line at check out time, they do not allow spouses to check in for you so you have to make sure you are there to check in. This means if you park you must drop you luggage off, have your spouse wait for you to go park offsite 3 blocks over and come back to check in. The line to check in was around a 20 minute wait. Parking offsite is silly and they charge you to park in their garage, 50 dollars on the weekend I believe. The rooms are very nice and the view is nice as well. The hotel is at a great location close to everything but I cant begin to even justify the price for staying here as other locations in this area are half the price. The pool is okay but good luck finding seating, it was over crowded and me and my wife had to share a chair, not very relating. I wasn't impressed and I really really wanted to be. Overall the hotel is nice, but for the price I would consider staying somewhere else. It wasn't worth it.
Great Place to relax with all amenities

The room, hotel, and entire property are very well-kept. We used the gym every morning. It was super clean, large and contained every piece of equipment I would need while away from home. The hotel restaurant, Biggio's had pretty good food as well.
What was nice was upon arriving, they gave us our choice of floors, as well as what view we wanted. We selected the top floor with a view of the stadium. It was fun seeing them both open and close the top of the stadium ceiling. Doesn't take much to excite us. lol
It was annoying that, about 2 weeks before our stay, we were constantly hit up with emails to pay to rent a spot by the pool. I looked the price up and it was over $130. Not even considering doing that! We never did pay for a spot, and didn't find it difficult to find a spot to put our towels down and float around the Texas-shaped lazy river ride.
Overall not a high quality experience

First the positives. The hotel is in a great location if you're going to the convention center or Minute Maid Park. Very close to both locations and an easy walk. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.
Lobby: Confusing layout. You use the parking garage a walk over to the 2nd floor lobby, and there's not a single sign to indicate where to go to check in. We walked all around, and no signs, no arrows, nothing. We finally took a try and went down to the first floor. It was there, but even there, it was difficult to find.
View: Half the hotel overlooks the convention center. Not an impressive view at all. Maybe the other half that overlooks the pool is better?
Pool: Where to begin here? I'll be honest. We booked this hotel because the pool area looked awesome. If you've read any other reviews, you see about the "reserved" seating. You can pay more to get better -lawn chairs- in an area closer to the pools and lazy river. Come on now. Like we're not paying enough already, and now you want to charge us to sit closer? Pools aren't heated at all, so it's varying degrees of cool or cold.
Lazy river: Looks impressive from above. Not so great when you're in the river. It barely moves the water. Mainly you being non-lazy by moving yourself. It tends to get packed with vacated inner tubes. One time through we thought we would better the experience by tossing the discarded ones to the side. The next time through, we saw an employee kicking them all back in and backing everything up again. The shape is neat, but the sharp corners seem to disrupt water flow, and people hang out with their drinks and block things up. The "El Paso" area was especially bad. Then the water, again, was really cold, which you can deal with. But then at least four different areas have sprayers that douse you or spritz you as pass under or through them. That's all fine with a heated pool, but with cold water, it's not fun.
Amazing Hotel, but they charge you for extras at the pool. CRAZY

We checked in today and the place is beautiful. Have spent the day at the crazy amazing pool only to learn if you want a good seat you have to pay for a better location. Pool chairs are color coded and if you don't pay more money you they put you in the back away from the pool. I've never see such a thing. Just another way to grab you for more money. I asked the front desk for any voucher to get a better chair based on your room rate and was told it was controlled by a 3rd party. That is CRAZY! are you kidding me a 3rd party. come on!!!!!
Hallway smelled strongly of weed and REALLY LOUD guests

We just returned yesterday from a two-night stay. Upon arrival to the 25th floor where our room was located, we were greeted immediately off the elevator to a strong marijuana smell... all throughout the hallway - all the way to our room. (You'd think seeing us check in with a 12 YO kid, instead of asking our floor preference, high or low, that they'd put us on a floor with other families instead of people who are just looking to be rowdy and party. But no, you'd be wrong.)
We were meeting my FIL who was there for a conference, so we did not call the front desk at this point, assuming that because we saw employees cleaning rooms and working that floor, that the problem would be resolved. When we returned from dinner, the smell was still strongly there and had not been dealt with at all. We attempted to go to bed around 10, and then the night of constant interruptions happened. Slamming doors, people obviously loud and drunk and probably high going in and out of each other's rooms, yelling, laughing, carrying on like they had never been anywhere before. I mean seriously... who DOES that???
We spent the morning at the pool waiting for FIL to be done with his meeting, we did purchase seats, but were not taken to our seats as we saw every.other.guest being done... they waved us in the direction of our seats and basically said figure it out. Awesome. Also, the fact that they were selling lounge chairs (I totally get selling cabana time - but seats???) was really cheap. It cheapens the whole hotel. We already paid a premium price to stay, even the JW Marriott here in SA does NOT CHARGE for poolside/lazy river-side seating, unless you want a cabana, which again, I totally understand. The Texas shaped lazy river is overrated. It's narrow. I mean, if that's why you're staying at this hotel, I'd skip it and try to purchase a day pass instead (if they offer them).
We hoped that the loud/rowdy/high guests had checked out, and were hoping on our last night to at least be able to get a decent night's sleep before driving back to San Antonio the next day, but no... just. no. They were at it again, slamming doors, drunk, high, loud, completely obnoxious. I cannot believe no one else on the floor complained, unless we were the only other people in a room on that floor. I called the front desk twice between 11 and 12-ish, and then my husband called. I heard security come up, and then I heard someone loudly yell "who up in here is lyin'".. I mean OMG. What is WRONG with these people??? They should have rented an AirBNB... you cannot stay in a hotel and act that way...
The hotel did not reach out the next morning, they did NOT ask at checkout how our stay was... I would not recommend this hotel. I would not stay there again. It is not worth the price at all.
In case you're staying there from out of town, Houstonians are NOT masking up, nor are the majority of the guests in the hotel.
