From the moment you walk in the lobby you know you’re in trouble. The very large brown pleather couch is so old it flakes off on your clothes. You will be unable to regulate the shower water temperature, so plan on freezing water mixed occasionally with boiling water. The hotel rooms smell like they are part of the 200 year history of the hotel. The digital key will never work for your room, so save yourself a trip back down to the desk and just get the traditional key cards. Avoid this place if at all possible!
Stop In - Excellent
Stayed here in our way to Galveston for a cruise. Location was good however not knowing Houston I might have preferred to be closer to the action. But this was still a 10 minute walk to the busy area. The hotel itself is awesome. Great service, very nice rooms. Our air conditioning was stuck on and freezing n our room and the front desk sent a gentleman to fix it and he had it done in 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend.
Great location downtown Houston
Excellent location next to the theater district; easily accessible to the light rail which provides easy access to the museum district. Walking distance to Buffalo Bayou, great area to walk or run. Close to restaurants. Good shuttle service.
Nice historical hotel
Nice hotel in a convenient part of town, near Minute Maid Park. Rooms were spotless, excellent bathrooms, and staff were great. Only downside was significant homeless population in the area. Challenging situation for many cities.
not worth the daily rate
The towels smelled like vinegar, no bathroom counter space. And the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. The restaurant "The Pearl" is great for cocktails and the first dinner I had was good. But the second night I had to send it back and was afraid to order a replacement meal. The desserts were stale both nights. However the bartender "Le Tigre" is the best and deserves five stars.
