Great stay
The facilities were very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Staff made suggestions to my queries about area restaurants, and informed me of the hotel's food options. I would highly recommend staying here.
Never again
Understood it was a budget hotel and had low expectations but it was worse than I imagined. Very desolate and only a few cars in the lot after 9:30 pm when I arrived. Seemed like 1/2 of hotel was dark and shut down. No mask required by staff. Said I could wear mine if I wanted to. Hotel is old and dated. Small chain for door that looked like it had been replaced a time or two seeing other screw holes next to it. Did not feel safe there traveling by myself. Floor in room felt damp and smelled like a mix of wet dog and room deodorizer. The worst thing was the bedding. One pillow (in photo) was not clean and had what looked like something from someone’s nose smeared on it. The “blanket” looked and felt like it was 50 years old. Worn, torn, holes, sticky, disgusting. Had I not drove all night and had to be back on the road early I would have left. I kept telling myself it was better than sleeping in my car. Slept with my jacket on, hood up and gloves on so I wouldn’t touch the sheets. Was up every hour. Told clerk in the morning about the bedding. Would not recommend at all.
Stay somewhere else
The property has gone downhill. Have stayed here for years but never again. The bedding was disgusting. The blankets were sticky. The hotel is in need of major repairs and updates. Not worth the $120. Not even for park and fly.
E.T. Smith
Was clean and personnel were friendly and helpful. Would stay again. Close to the airport and to downtown Des Moines good variety of food nearby also a grocery store. Suggest trying Smitty's drive in on Army Post Rd. for a tenderloin
Budget priced
We chose this hotel for both the price and the location. When we arrived, there was a sign posted on the door mentioning that their included hot breakfast has been replaced with a bagged breakfast due to COVID-19. Our room on the 3rd floor was clean and quiet. The only noise we could hear was when walking the hallways through other room doors (no noise from neighboring rooms or the airport across the street). The bathroom was small but functional. Our room had both a microwave and refrigerator. Coffee and tea were available in the lobby in the morning, but the breakfast was just a granola bar and packaged muffin.
