Avoid. They have no idea there's a pandemic.
Traveling cross-country this week, tonight is Des Moines. I walked in and immediately realized I'd made a terrible mistake. Health Safety is my number one concern, and this was a terrifying experience. First of all, this is the first hotel on my trip where the front deskperson was not wearing a mask. She was sweet and helpful, and gave me a first-floor room at my request, so that's why there's two stars and not just one. The lobby was filled with families and kids, not a single mask to be seen, other than the one on my face. The lobby is not a large place and to get to my room I had to squeeze by kids running, parents schmoozing. No face masks on any of them. I realize it's hard for a property to manage the conduct of their guests -- but this is a pandemic. Not only should the desk clerk have a facemask on at all times, but she should have also recognized that the absolute lack of social distancing/face-mask wearing in the lobby was creating a scary situation for any guest who actually would like to get to their room without picking up the virus on the way. I had to make three trips to my car to get my luggage, and each return into the hotel was really upsetting. Shame on those guests, but shame on this hotel as well. There's a pandemic going on, and people are dying. If you don't care, then I guess this is a good hotel for you.
Decent place, uncomfortable bedding
The hotel was nice, staff was nice, and the bar and restaurant looked nice. The bed was super uncomfortable. The sheets were itchy to the point I checked for bugs, which thankfully I did not find. The comforter seemed to be a down comforter that had been washed and dried too many times. It had balled up filler all through it. I got in late and dealt with it, when I should have asked for a different room. That part is on me for accepting something so bad. Hopefully it is a one off situation and not the norm because everything else was fine. That being said, check the bedding before settling in for the night.
Great location/excellent staff
Easy shuttle (especially when snowing) and close to the airport. Check-in staff (Susie) was great. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Good value for the money. The site is directly tied to Johnny's Steakhouse for breakfast buffet or late night drinks, dinner, etc.
Stay was nice
Very nice hotel. stay there every time we are flying out of town. Just seems like they have trouble with thier hot tub. We stay to enjoy the pool erea before we leave, and the stay and fly. Just disappoiont when you show up and find out the hot tub is broke. and noone told us. before or at check in
We loved this hotel before we left for our trip. It's very close to the airport and has a free shuttle. We also kept our car at the hotel with the park and fly. The pool was nice for swimming. We ate at the restaurant right next door. We will be staying here again soon.
