Great welcome. Amazing views, superb service

Reviewed 22 november, 2022

A very welcoming receptionist who helped with parking, particularly as we arrived in a large van !! Spacious room with comfortable bed and great shower. Very relaxing bar, fantastic views of the suspension bridge and gorge. A great bar tender recommended a local gin. Dinner in the restaurant again had great views and I would recommend the food, we had trout and burger. After dinner we had the cocktail of the month, a good old fashioned, which was a lovely end to out evening. Thank you for a great stay, we will definitely be back.

Beautiful view

Reviewed 8 november, 2022

Beautiful property with stunning views, easy access to Clifton and a 15 minute taxi ride into Bristol. We loved our balcony room, giving us the opportunity to take in the view, the room itself was a good size, super comfortable bed and a great en-suite double shower and heated bathroom floor. The hotel restaurant, Goram and Vincent has amazing views and a good menu for breakfast and dinner. The lounge bar is worth a visit for a coffee or cocktail - the service is great too! A couple of niggles - parking is tricky, there is a park and display outside the hotel and parking permits are available from reception. Unfortunately we found the information from reception not great or very helpful when it came to parking (almost like solving a riddle) additionally a lack of customer service on check out. In addition to front of house, we felt the service and order taking in the restaurant could do with improving and less rushed. We would definitely return as we love the location :)

Just utter perfection..

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the Avon Gorge Hotel. Everything that I meticulously requested to make my marriage proposal special, was done for me. The Pol Roger suite we stayed in was absolutely incredible and took our breath away, with amazing views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The evening was just perfect, the food and drink and again, perfect views of the stunning bridge. I want to make a special mention to Julian & Ross who looked after us in the evening after I made my successful engagement to my partner. All I can say is wow, thanks for making our evening so very special. We will be back every year on the 5th of November for sure. Best wishes, Steve & Tori.

Apparently Hidden service charges

Reviewed 7 november, 2022

Staff friendly and helpful, place designed to be dark, OK if you like that sort of false sophistication. The reason for the one rating is that when I went to check out I was told that the extras (2 rounds of drinks and a meal) came to £70, without providing me with a bill. (It is normal when you check out at a hotel, they print off a bill you inspect it then you pay) So I asked for a bill which on inspection showed a load of service charges, at no point was I told I would have to pay a service charge for drinks in a bar… I was told they would be delivered to my table I did not request such a service. As soon as I queried the service charges they offered to remove them. It seems to me the staffs are trained to behave in this apparent underhanded manor. I am sure the service charge issue is hidden away in some small print somewhere. This hotel is not the Ritz or anything like it. These practices I would suggest are more than questionable. Will I stay at a Hotel de Vin again….no!

Couldn’t have been more perfect…

Couldn’t have been more perfect. I booked the Perrier Jouet Suite as a treat for my husband’s 60th birthday. Every element of our stay was exceptional. Staff were welcoming, helpful and polite, the decor was gorgeous, the shared garden at the back of the suite that looked out over Bristol felt exclusive, the balloons in the suite (that I hadn’t requested) were a lovely surprise, a drink in the bar before heading out for the evening whilst overlooking the lit up Suspension Bridge and then the same view at breakfast in the morning. Thank you to all of the staff for making it so special.
