Inexpensive Basic Hotel
Reviewed 23 February, 2020
Hotel Monarca is a smallish hotel in the Itagüi area of Medellin, on the corner of Carrera 50 and Calle 83. On a motorcycle trip to Medellin my riding partner and I ended up there on a search through Booking dot com.
It is an inexpensive basic hotel. It is not a fancy place, and if you are looking for an upscale hotel, this is not it.
My room was very small but enough for me. The bathroom was basic but functional. My room did not have a glass in the bathroom. There was a good ceiling fan that I turned on for a while.
There is secure parking for motorcycles adjacent to the hotel.
The staff service was good, I had only a few interactions with them.
There is a very simple restaurant there. We had both dinner and breakfast. The food is basic Colombian food. It is good and quite inexpensive.
My room faced onto Carrera 50. There is a large trucking/warehouse area just across the street and they start working quite early.
So Hotel Monarca filled our needs on this occasion. I would come back & would recommend it to someone looking for an inexpensive hotel.
Clean and inexpensive, not really for families
Reviewed 30 July, 2018
The place was clean and not really expensive for what they offered. What I did not really like is that they offer accommodation for very short periods of time (hours), if you know what I mean. I don't have problems with that services, but due to that I would not consider it family oriented. I think for that type of services, there are much better places.
Basic accommodations; clean; helpful & attentive staff

This hotel is clean, modern, basic, located in an interesting area, and has an attentive staff that goes the extra mile to please. The room had TV/fridge/CD player/desk. I paid extra for a room with a bath tub large enough for two to sit side-by-side. The rooms are not air conditioned but there is a fan in the room, and the entire building is well ventilated, having an open air lay out. Afternoons were hot, evenings cooled off, and by morning the temperature dropped to 65 degrees. There is not much of a lounging area in the lobby (a coffee pot, a couple of chairs, and a sofa), but there excellent views of the valley to the front and the working class neighborhood to the rear from the roof and the stair landings. The staff works 24 hours a day to keep the building and rooms tidy and clean, and will respond to any request you make. Can't say enough good things about the staff. The restaurant is a great place for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and there are many humble eateries within a few blocks in the neighborhood to the back, or in the shopping center in the Mayorista across the street. Metro train station is just 4 blocks away, and Poblado was 2 stops and a 5 minute ride away. I felt safe walking around the neighborhood at night. If you are travelling light and didn't bring your lap top, there are desktops on the first floor. A quiet night's sleep is no problem. Wi-fi was a problem at first, but when I asked the staff, they moved a router close to my room. Did not use the gym or the Turkish bath, but they were inviting. No safes in the room, but manager secured my valuables in the office. Once again, kudos to the staff.

Un regular hospedaje, no había cobija en la habitación, no había parqueadero, no funcionaba bien la llave de habitación; la nevera botaba agua, muchísimo ruido al interior, azotan las puertas. En fin, muy regular el servicio.
